Feeling Cranky
The Long Day's Journey Into the Next
Woke up at 5:30 am Sunday morning to get ready to go to Fontana for the Nascar race. Got out the door at 6:30 and went to Carl's Jr. and enjoyed a nice breakfast sandwich. We reached out car destination at around 8:50 in Oxnard at the train station. We were taking the Metrolink from there to the track which is around a 2 hour and 20 minute ride. The train left the station at 9:40 as scheduled. After several stops we arrived at the speedway at noon.
We spent a few hours wandering around the fan zone and enjoyed our lunch which consisted of Subway Club sandwiches we had purchased the night before. No, we didn't have an alcoholic beverages all day because I'm not paying the $7 a bottle for beer or $8 for a drink.
We enjoyed the driver intros, they flyover of jets, the parachutists and even American Idol loser Bo Bice sang us the National Anthem. Did you know that Bo now had a new advice column like Ann Landers . . . he calls it Ad Bice by Bo.
Race starts at around 5:20 and finishes at approximately 9 pm. So the train leaves the track at a little after 10 and we start to make our way home. This chick was getting all flirty with some cowboy in our car and it turns out that her husband was sitting there watching it all. So I guess they got up and made their way to another car. The next thing you know we reach Glendale, not a planned stop, at 11pm because this chick apparently flashed her tits at people and the husband got into a fight with some other guy. One of them ended up with a broken nose and blood all over him. The police and paramedics were summoned to the station.
So many apologies by the train's conductor and we sat and sat and sat in Glendale for an hour and a half while the police gathered all the information. They should have just kicked those imbeciles off the train and let them find their own ways home, but NO . . . a thousand people or so on the train get to be inconvenienced and in the end they were allowed to reboard the train with only a ticket from the cops.
The train finally gets moving again at 1230 am Monday morning, which should have been the time we made it to Oxnard at the latest. So we trudge on arrive at the station and our awaiting car at a little before 2 am. We still had an hour and 3/4 ride home from there. We finally made it back to Santa Maria, went through the drive thru at Jack in the Box, and got home, ate, and our heads finally hit the sack at 4:30 am, a mere 23 hours from our start. Jeez, I'm still tired just thinking about it.
I do have to say that the race totally sucked. Not because Jimmie Johnson won, he totally dominated the field and led almost all the laps and it wasn't even close, but because it was the most boring race I have ever attended. That track sucks so much. They never have a good race there and this was the worst of the worst. I don't think that a return trip there will be in my future plans. It also didn't help that Tony Stewart didn't come close to climbing any fences, he just climed a toiled because he was so crappy.
At the race we ran into some more ignorant Jesus Earnhardt Jr. fans. When Kyle Busch was introduced one fan booed vociferously and yelled out "I hope you crash into the wall!" When Jesus Jr. was announced I booed and said the same thing about him. A girl Jr. fan said that wasn't nice and that "we outnumber you". So I guess you have to love Jr. or be banished from watching the sport. We asked this chick why Jr. fans acted as if he was a God and she replied, "because he is". That just validates my point as to how friggen stupid these fans are.
Anyway, hope you had a good Tuesday and have a happy hump day/no panty day tomorrow. Take care.

Please Consider This
After much contemplation and deep thought over the past several months, with the events of the past couple of days, I formally endorse Barrack Obama for President and Joseph Biden for Vice President.
His speech at the Democratic National Convention was captivating and forward looking with the restoration of our country's standing domestically and abroad at the forefront of his campaign. We do need change from the past eight years of hell the Bush administration has given us. We need to remove big oil, inward thinking, hateful and murderous individual from the White House and replace that with someone fresh, competent, new, and caring. It is time to be out with the old and in with the new.
With the announcement by John McCain yesterday that Alaskan governor Sarah Palin would be his running mate that sealed the deal for me. If he thinks that putting a woman on the ticket will lure Hillary Clinton voters to buy in to four more years of failed domestic policy, a continued occupying of Iraq, and business as usual he is sorely mistaken.
To me he certainly picked the wrong woman. This woman wants to drill in the Alaskan National Wildlife refuge, another wonderful tactic that the Republicans have been pushing for years instead of alternate energy sources and an attempt to make them and their friends pockets a little heavier.
This woman is a card carrying member of the NRA and would rather have assault rifles on the street threatening civility in our country than regulating them. Defend the second amendment but don't help to make our streets more violent.
She is a pro life candidate. Of course there is nothing wrong with that but she would threaten to help to eliminate a woman's right to choose to abort an unwanted pregnancy. This is a highly debated issue and if we ever went back to making abortion illegal then it would be a step back to be sure. Women would still seek abortions and would end up doing harm to themselves in an unsafe way.
Don't allow our freedoms to be run over by big money Republicans that are only looking out for themselves. I plead with you to cast your important vote this November for the correct choice, the only choice Barrack Obama and Joe Biden.
Thank you for allowing me to speak to you today. Have a very nice Labor day weekend.

Feeling Depressed
Not Sure Why I Bother
Observations of Today.
My daughter turned 17 but who knows if I will ever hear from her again. I haven't heard her voice in over two years now. I did send her a card and some money. Hope she had a good day. She will be going into her senior year of high school soon.
The Allstate 400 at the Brickyard nascar race today was a farce if you ask me. I waited two weeks since the last race to see this. This is supposed to be the biggest race on the schedule outside the Daytona 500. So what did we get. A race that wasn't. The tires did not work and they had to through a caution about every ten laps. So there were never any long runs, only short mini heats basically. Nascar ought to be ashamed of itself for this pathetic excuse for a race today. The only good thing that happened was that Jesus Earnhardt Jr. didn't win.
Big Brother will be on shortly so at least the day won't be a total waste. But it will soon be time for bed then another long, boring, and worthless week of work ahead.
On a good note, I want to wish sweet Allison Allison's Thoughts a very wonderful birthday on Monday. I hope you will do something nice and have some fun. Love you lots!
Take care and have a good week Y'all.

Feeling Bored
This Week
Here it is Sunday morning. Just a mere 24 hours from now I will be back at lousy work once again. That place isn't a bed of roses these days, then again it never has been. In a couple of weeks I will have been there for 3 years. I usually ask for a raise around my anniversary date but this year I think I will have to hold off. They just got done laying off four inspectors on Thursday. Then I had to move from my normal department into a new area in which I know next to nothing about the parts. Friday was pretty much a waste of time for me moving my stuff and then being lost the whole day as to what was going on in my new area. Getting acclimated is never any fun.
We went to a play at the local College's theatre Friday night. They have a pretty nice theatre at Hancock College and the name of the play was Ragtime. It was ok, kind of a dark story. The theatre was hot inside because they didn't have the AC running due to everything being run on a generator because of a power outage at the college. PCPA - Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts
Didn't much of anything yesterday and today promises much of the same. Wifey is working all weekend so the computer and the boob tube is about all that is on the agenda. At least Big Brother starts tonight. I do like that show a lot.
Congratulations to Kyle Busch on winning his 7th Sprint cup race of the season last night with a late race pass of Jimmie Johnson and also winning his 5th Nationwide series race on Friday night. This kid has had a spectacular year so far.
My driver Tony Stewart will be driving for his own team next year, leaving Joe Gibbs racing after ten years.
I'm sick, sick, sick, sick, sick to death over hearing the name Brett Favre right now! He is so irritating. Retiring and now wanting back. He has held the Packers hostage for years with his diva like attitude and with his obviously phony tears at his supposed retirement months ago. Do us all a favor Brett, GO AWAY!
That's about it for this Sunday morn. Have a great day and a good week ahead. Take care Y'all.

Feeling Frisky
Today's Activities and Thoughts
Sunday, we had a pretty nice day. We went to the early matinee, at 9:50 am, and saw Hancock, the new film starring Will Smith. The first time I saw the trailer for this film I said to myself no way did I want to see that "stupid thing." Then I saw another trailer and the slew of advertisement leading up to it and I warmed up quite nicely to the prospect that this may actually be a pretty good flick. I was not disappointed.
It was a quite unique movie, which is good in an era of sequels upon sequels to bad movies, we got to see a movie that kept one's attention span throughout. I thoroughly recommend this movie to you.
After the movie we went to Chili's for lunch and had the low calorie chicken sandwich with black beans and veggies. It was really tasty and they call it part of their "guiltless" selections and I don't feel guilty in the slightest. I am getting ready to eat a nice healthy salad for dinner as well. I got on an eating binge it seemed for about two weeks and my body really didn't like it too much, so for the past week and a half have been back on track and feeling a whole lot better.
Congratulations to Kyle Busch for winning his six Sprint Cup race of the season last night at Daytona. I know that Christina was disappointed that Tony Stewart took ill during the race and had J.J. Yeley substitute for him bringing the Home Depot Toyota home in 20th. I really love when Kyle Busch wins and Jesus Earnhardt Jr. doesn't because his fans are a bunch of crackpot redneck drunks, and that is being polite. I saw several fools, most likely Dale Earnhardt Jehovah fans tossing bottles at Busch, showing the class of slug as usual.
Did anyone notice the story about on the AOL homepage about how watermelons act like viagra. I'd be on my way to the store to buy some but you know what, I'm already the Thrill and I don't need that to get me ready for some fun. LOL
Anyway, I've talked long enough for today. Hope Y'all had fantastic holiday weekends and tomorrow it's back to the daily grind once again. Have safe weeks and take care.

What a Shaq-Ass
You may or may not like Kobe Bryant for any number of reasons, but I am getting so tired of hearing from Shaq with all of his disrespecting rhetoric. This video speaks for itself, watch it til the end and let me know what you think.

Did You Hear a Two Minute Warning George?
George Carlin 1937-2008
Welcome to Phil's Obituary Corner! Seems like that is all I have been dealing with on here lately but so many people have been passing away and now the second with a heart attack George Carlin. I'm sure his heart wasn't as good as it could have been had he laid off those drugs all those years.
I remember seeing him a couple of times in person. The first time was at the Universal Amphitheater, now the Gibson Amphitheater at Universal Studios. That was when he was in his hey day and his jokes made you just about bust a gut. I wonder if God give him the two minute warning that he described in one of his earlier routines . . . that would sure be a trip if he did. I did see him a few years ago in Vegas and his act was stale and he seemed bitter. We enjoyed his warm up more than him. Anyway, rest in peace George and be sure to discuss those seven words that you couldn't use on TV with the man upstairs.
I will leave you with some Carlin quotes that I have come across.
At a formal dinner party, the person nearest death should always be seated closest to the bathroom.
Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity.
Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?
"I am" is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language. Could it be that "I do" is the longest sentence?
I'm always relieved when someone is delivering a eulogy and I realize I'm listening to it.

Feeling Sad
Scott Kalitta
It seems like every week I come here and report upon the death of someone. Scott Kalkitta's death was violent yesterday. Safety improvements to the end of the track where his fiery car smashed in the wall have to upgraded. Saying that, the NHRA race today in Englishtown, NJ will have a cloud over it. My condolences go out to the Kalitta family who will miss Scott sorely. If you'd like to send condolences click this link Rest In Peace, Scott

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. -- Scott Kalitta died Saturday when his Funny Car burst into flames and crashed at the end of the track during the final round of qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.
The NHRA said the 46-year-old Kalitta -- the 1994 and 1995 Top Fuel season champion who had 18 career victories, 17 in Top Fuel and one in Funny Car -- was taken to the Old Bridge division of Raritan Bay Medical Center, where he died a short time later.
Kalitta's Toyota Solara was traveling at about 300 mph when it burst into flames.
The Palmetto, Fla., resident started his career at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in 1982. His father, Connie Kalitta, was a longtime driver and team owner known as "The Bounty Hunter," and his cousin, Doug Kalitta, also drives competitively.
One Of The Best
The NHRA community lost one of its best men on Saturday. Here's a look at Scott Kalitta's career accomplishments.

"We are deeply saddened and want to pass along our sincere condolences to the entire Kalitta family," the NHRA said in a statement. "Scott shared the same passion for drag racing as his legendary father, Connie. He also shared the same desire to win, becoming a two-time series world champion. He left the sport for a period of time, to devote more time to his family, only to be driven to return to the drag strip to regain his championship form. ... He will be truly missed by the entire NHRA community."
Kalitta had most of his racing success in Top Fuel, highlighted by his series titles in 1994 and 1995. He retired from racing in 1997, sitting out most of two seasons before returning for a 10-race campaign in 1999. He sat out three more seasons following that brief stint and then returned again in 2003, joining cousin Doug as a second driver for the family's two Top Fuel dragsters.
Kalitta started his pro career in Top Fuel in 1982, running limited events for four seasons before moving to Funny Car in 1986 for his first full season of competition. He returned to that category full-time in 2006.
One of only 14 drivers in NHRA history to win in both premier nitro categories, Kalitta's last victory came in Chicago in 2005 in Top Fuel. He had a runner-up finish two weeks ago in Chicago, his 36th career NHRA final-round appearance.
He's survived by his father, wife Kathy and sons Corey, 14, and Colin, 8.
NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Brad Keselowski -- a native of Rochester Hills, Mich., about 20 miles away from Kalitta's hometown of Mount Clemens -- learned the news from a television report.
"That really hits close to home," Keselowski said after winning the pole position for Saturday night's race at the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wis. "[He was] a friend of my family's, and I send my thoughts and prayers out to him. That's tough to hear."
Last year, Funny Car driver Eric Medlen died after an accident in a testing session at Gainesville, Fla.
