Patrick's Saturday Six

cuz I'm unable to write anything without prompts...

Click the pic to get to all the really good answers.

1. What was your favorite Halloween candy to receive as a child?
as a child, bubble gum.  Now... (and i ain't grown up) I reminisce about my mom's homemade candy apples (though I'm still not crazy about them).  Give me a snickers or plain m&ms

2. Of cities you've visited (that you don't live in), which is your favorite and why?
Ooh, toss-up.  Athens for the cost of stuff and the jillions of cats all over the place, and quite possibly the ouzo.  It's a messy city, and I like that.  Prague for the charm of the architecture, the music, the beer.

3. What is the oldest appliance in your kitchen (and how old is it)?
Gotta be my mother's meat grinder.  Gotta be 70 years old?  how's that?   Do I win a prize?

4. How many broken bones have you suffered in your life time, and when was the most recent?
One, my elbow-- hell, I don't know--20 years ago?  Time flies when your bones aren't broken. How did I do it, you might ask?  the Drama Queen fell off the stage.

5. Check your caller ID:  who is the last person to have called you?
Greg!

6. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #26 from
Nettie: What would you say is your biggest "character flaw?"
How unlike Nettie to concentrate on the negative.  Some might say my bluntness.  I call it a virtue.

Better than Blogging?

thanks to Tara, via Candace

Name Analysis: for MerelyP

Expression: 5

The Expression number shows us who we truly are, what we came into this life already knowing. This is where we feel most comfortable and how we automatically act. We attract people and situations to us that require our Expression so that they can further evolve. In this way we play the role of teacher. Naturally we are attracted to occupations that we resonate to, so the Expression number can be a strong factor in our choice of a career as well. Our Expression is the vehicle, with all its virtues and vices, that drives us along the path of our Destiny. It is the essence of our identity.

You use life changes like rungs on a ladder. Growth, variety, beginnings and endings are constant elements in your life. You are able to let go of anything or anyone in order to further your growth. not so Because of this ability, coupled with a talent for translating new ideas into logical, useful explanations, you would make a great teacher and/or writer. hope so.Travel is something you are made for, even if only through your mind.

Soul Urge: 9

The Soul Urge number has also been called Heart's Desire and Spiritual Urge. It is our secret, innermost longing. Our dream, our motivation, the fuel that energizes our journey. The Soul Urge number reveals what we secretly strive to be or accomplish. Some have said that this number tells us what we have been in previous lifetimes, the accumulated growth of our soul.

Like the number 6 soul urge, your life revolves around giving and receiving love. Your desire, however, includes the whole of humanity and a few races besides. Compassion, passion and forgiveness make up your essence and you are very generous and impressionable. The fine arts call out to you and you may in fact have a master artist living inside of you. or withme

Persona: 5

The Persona number describes the way we appear to the outside world, the first impression people have of us. We may not even be aware of how we are perceived by others because we are so often focused on our inner world, and many times the inner does not match the outer. Persona gives us a peek at some hidden talents we have. The talents that we use to get along in the world and in some instances, protect us from it. It is likened to a bag of tools (jewels) that we carry with us along the way.

You've got charisma, and a following to prove it. You live by your belief that change is progress, and so there tends to be a quick turn over in your relationships, jobs and even educational interests. You are the proverbial, " jack of all trades-master of none.", and this gives you a multi-dimensionality that befriends you to people of every walk of life. You are colorful in your dress and possess a magnetic sensuality. yup, dat's da sexy mumsy

Of Mermaids, Zoos, and other Neighbors

via: http://journals.aol.com/pattboy92/PatricksPlace/entries/909

Picture from Hometown

1. Who is the last person you took a photograph of?
Mae and Matt on the Endangered Species Merry-go-Round at Scovill Zoo.(see above) Oh-- it was Mae's camera.  Mumsy's spy cam cannot capture stuff right in front of me, let alone ostriches in motion!

2. What decade do you hold the most dear and why?
the 60s. You're kidding, right? Peace, Love, Bellbottoms? What else is there?

3. Take the quiz: What mystical creature are you?
ex 12  You're a mermaid. The stereotypical mermaid had a
long, fish-like tail that blended with the human torso at the hips and almost white skin with red hair or some off color like green or blue. They were the most fantastic singers and the siren type of mermaids would lure sailors
with their lovely lullaby into dangerous rocks. They were mostly harmless and peacefull and they were content to simply sit on the beach combing their hair or in the water playing with friends. They never wore clothes and were
always women. They were sweet and a little deceitful at times.
~~What Mystical Creature Are You? brought to you by Quizilla

4. What is your favorite alcoholic beverage?
well, as I am sipping a Kahlua-laced Diet Pepsi... I'll have to say... Sambuco, which I don't know how to spell, and only a couple of people know why.

5. What do you normally wear to bed?
Patrick, I'm shocked you even care! any number of t-shirts. or not.

6. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #24 from Cherie: What movie character do you most identify with?
Romy Schneider's role in Good Neighbor Sam.

When in doubt... display cat pictures

Is anyone else lethargic on this first official day of Autumn?

I'm usually invigorated and somewhat nostalgic when the calendar says, First Day of Fall.  Today, I wish I weren't sniffling and coughing.  and I wish I had graded all those tests Monday, when I promised myself I would.  Have I mentioned that school is going great?

We have 6 on the Speech Team, and we're planning 6 tournaments and 2 workshop trips between October 1 and December 4.  No wonder I'm tired.

Anyway, when I am feeling over- or underwhelmed, I find the best thing to do is post a bit of familiar flora and fauna.

There ya have it.  Hope you're not allergic.

A side note

Have you been missing the Golden Child?  (It's rhetorical; you needn't reply-- I am going to suggest a remedy other than whining that he update his blog.)

Go to his wond'rous B2B-I Group Website!  You may get there by clicking on the little -- emphasis: 1st draft-- twirling thingamajig below.  (please)

There you will find fun faces and facts and-- you might find this hard to believe-- Community Guidelines.  (Click when on home page)

If you aren't a member of Born to Blog-International, I don't know if you can get into the site or not.  Probably you can.  But it is a groovy group to join.  I'm not a joiner, meself, usually... but I knew this batch of veteran beta bloggers stuck their necks out when I was brand new and helped me do a bunch of stuff, and I joined promptly.  The funny "side note" is that you will see listed in my About Me section (as of today) a plaque announcing my "Founding Member" status of such group.  Hardly!  But GoldenChild-- in his wisdom, perhaps-- decided to pretend I was when he did my biography for that website.  (I'm listed under the 'ku-Mumsy screen name there for the Haiku THEMED journal, which, interestingly enough was NOT one of the screen names I did register with B2B-i, until, ummm, the Awards...)

At any rate, I am (for the second time) pimping this cool accomplishment.  Gregg has been keeping busy tweaking that a little bit here and there... and I think ya oughta go check out some of the latest additions.  His "Guydelines" are based not on TOS, but on a simple principle called:

Courtesy.

Imagine.  Go!  Shoo!

pouting...

Picture from Hometown

Tink wants you to fly over to Cyberdancing and volunteer for a committee to help organize the Las Vegas Confluence.... or at least voice a vote for a good weekend in August, 2005!

Watch out before the pouting turns into rain... or hurricaine...

I find it interesting that of the 75 votes or so, the overwhelming majority was for two "gambling" cities.  Does that mean the face-to-facers have a bit of the gambler in them?  Or all journals-writers?  (can we just say bloggers, please?  No, this is AOL.  I forgot.  About whose future none are certain....)

anyway, if the committee doesn't hear your desires, we may set up the convention in NeverNeverLand.  You don't want that, do ya?

Essay entitled How Art Has Influenced My Life

http://journals.aol.com/judithheartsong/newbeginning/entries/1039

When has it not?

When I was a child, I loved to draw.  My parents kinda looked at each other with a puzzled expression as if to say, "What gives with this?"  They encouraged me by giving me my most prized Jon Nagy Art Set-- complete with charcoals and pastels and paint and drawing paper, and I was in heaven.  I had until very recently an apple I drew complete with bruise and that little shiny place and shading and all... in 3rd grade.  It was great!  I haven't drawn that well since.  Well, I haven't drawn much at all since then.

I didn't color inside the lines.  I just want you to know that.  It seems important.

Next, participating in Art meant singing for me.  And I did so, as a chorus member, never as a solo voice, all through junior and senior high school.  .  . even when it wasn't cool.  .  . which was all 6 of those years!  Interestingly, I moved from soprano to tenor in those 6 years, something, I suspect, having to do with the cigarette habit I also developed at the same time....

Next, my appreciation for the Lively Arts was drawn (via the boyfriend I was drawn to <<== see how I can work in the word draw?)  to theatre.  Some don't think of the Performing Arts as, you know, art.  I do.  (As I do the written arts, which I periodically also DO.  I call it 'poutery' rather than 'poetry' because I am not so good at it as I once was.  Practice, you know, is needed.)

It was immersing myself in the world of theatre, however, that made me WHO I am to this very day:  an empathetic listener,  an observer of behavior, an afficionado of color scheme and historic representation and musical interlude and underlay and the uncanny range of vocal inflection and timing, a sometimes inspired actor, an enthusiastic (if not disciplined) director, an energetic producer or publicist, but always, always... an appreciative audience.

Ask anyone!  I have an infectious laugh.  And the hands are quick to applaud.

Only art --in almost any form-- makes me feel like me.  It's even better than swimming, which is what I did instead of drawing.... It's what lights up my eyes, tickles my funny bone, makes me clasp my hands in glee.  In short, I become a child again:
I play.

this entry is dedicated to JudithHeartSong's contest, for which I carry a bit of a torch...
but I covet Jennifer's, if you must know.    ~~mumsy
