Hearing Drivin' 'n' Cryin', Wild Dog Moon
Okay, I have to start this entry first by apologizing: I should have blogged about this problem when we first discovered it a few days ago, but I didn't. Why? Two reasons:
Here's the problem (which is now fixed) -- a few days ago, I was looking through the profiles of several cute young things (for purely professsional reasons), when I noticed that, even though their pictures, names and everything else in the profiles screamed "I'M A GIRL," the Gender field of their Basic Info Module said "Male."
I thought that was kind of odd, so I checked the profiles of a few folks who I know to be female (well, I'm reasonably sure) and whose profiles were also showing this problem. I then asked if they were trying to mess around with people's heads (like folks who set their age as "86"), or if this was a real problem.
It was a real problem. Apparently, something got flipped on the server so that all folks who had specified a gender in their Basic Info Module were displaying as "Male."
Boom. Instant sausagefest.
The Basic Info Module is part of the default template and is the third most popular module out there, used in about 90% of all AIM Pages profiles. I don't know how many folks have specified a gender, but the problem probably affected a good number of people.
Anyway, like I said, the problem was fixed today. Sorry for the inconvenience. I promise to be more forthcoming with blogging about problems.
I do note that sometimes the Basic Info Module acts a little funny, so if you see a problem with it or any other part of your AIM Pages profile, please drop us a line (in the comments or via e-mail) with a link to your profile and a description of the issue (as much detail as you can provide -- browser, operating system, etc -- helps), and someone will take a look.
Thanks -- Joe

- I thought it was going to be fixed faster than it was.
- It was kind of embarassing.
- I didn't see anyone complaining about it.
