Okay, so as I just mentioned, with the new AIM Pages launch, there's a new Buddy Gallery in town.
In fact, there's a whole new way of inviting, managing and otherwise handling the buddies who show up in your AIM Pages profile.
However, this means that if you previously had a Buddy Gallery (as in, before 11/13/06), your Buddy Gallery will be coming up empty, like so:(It's a little odd -- you might see your old Buddy Gallery briefly as the page loads, but it will be blanked out when your page renders completely.)
However, please don't fret -- all you have to do is re-invite your Buddies to your Buddy Gallery. Which is the perfect introduction to the new Buddy Gallery.
Adding buddies to the new Buddy Gallery is pretty intuitive, so a step-by-step tutorial is probably overkill (in the Edit section at the top of your page, click "Buddies" and play around) ; however, since I have to recreate my Buddy Gallery anyway, I will document the steps, and you can follow along if you like.
¿Listos? Vamos a empazar! ("Ready? Let's begin!" It's about the only Spanish I remember.)
First off, when you're signed in with your Screen Name, you'll notice a new control panel in the upper right corner (that white box). When you're signed in, it will always show you your info, no matter whose profile you're looking at.
It's the most convenient way to manage your Page, Pictures and Buddies, and it'll also show you how many pending Buddy Requests you have (requests from other people to add you to their Buddy Galleries).
Now, your panel looks somewhat similar to another panel on the left side, which will show the page, pics and buddies of the person whose profile you're looking at. So don't get the two mixed up.
Here's a simple reminder of whose info goes where -- I'm signed in, and looking at my cow-orker Jason's profile, Down With YT?:
I can keep going down my list of current buddies and add them one at a time; alternately, I could just click the orange "Add All Buddies" button at the bottom of the list. Either way, if you change your mind and don't want to send a Buddy Request to that person, just click the X by their Screen Name to take them off the list.
When you're all done selecting (you can always go back and add more later), click the orange "Send Buddy Invite" button.
This will invite your Buddies to show up in your Buddy Gallery. Note that no one will show up in your Buddy Gallery (and you won't show up in anyone else's Buddy Gallery), until they accept your invitation.
To check the status of Buddy Invites you've sent, click the Pending Invites tab:You can re-notify people (invitations expire after 30 days), or cancel the invite by hitting "Delete."
Now, say someone has sent you a Buddy Invite. When you sign on to AIM or AOL, you'll get an official IM from Screen Name AIM System Message; also, your AIM Pages control panel at the top right of your profile will show you how many invites you have. (Well, it will when it works.) [Update, 11/15: The Buddy Request counter now works.]
You can click the Buddy Requests tab to see who wants you on their Buddy Gallery:
* Remove from Buddy Gallery will take that Buddy off your Buddy Gallery completely.
* Add to AIM Buddy List will add that Buddy's Screen Name to your AIM Buddy List if they're not already on it. Very handy.
Anyway, those are the key aspects of the new AIM Pages Buddy management features. Play around, let us know if you run into any problems or have any comments.
Thanks -- Joe

How can I solve a problem with my buddy list?
I have a buddy listed, that I have been doing IM with for years, yet recently in the past month, I have been unable to IM and they have been unable to contact me, except by email. Next to their buddy listing on the left is a little red iicon, with a negative? sign in the center and when I click on the buddy info icon, this is what comes up:
NAME@aol.com
"This person does not have an AIM profile."
This is the only entry in my buddy list that is like that and I have been unable to correct it. I have deleted and added back again, but same results. I have tried to contact customer service, with no results, going therough all the tech support questions that I thought would help, but still no results. I really miss the IM chat with them and would like to have this problem corrected.
