Hi all -- with this week's launch, we've got a bunch of brand-new AIM Pages users (hi there), so I thought I'd just list out some of the ways to fix common problems with your profile.
If you're seeing strange error messages, having problems viewing or editing profiles, or your profile is just "acting funny":
* Clear Your Web Browser Cache: This should be the first step whenever you have problems with a Web page (any Web page, not just AIM Pages profiles); your Web browser stores files it may need later on your computer, since it's faster to grab them from your computer than to re-get them from the Web.
Sometimes, outdated or otherwise bad files get stuck in your browser cache, so the first thing to do is to clear your browser cache.
You can see my full instructions on how to clear your Web browser cache (with step-by-step instructions and screenshots).
(In a nutshell: For AOL 9.0 users, just go to Keyword: Browser Settings [AOL client link], click "Internet Explorer Settings" in the right column, then in the section marked "Temporary Internet Files", click "Delete Files...")
* Clear Your AOL TopSpeed Cache: This one is specific to people using the AOL client software. TopSpeed is another kind of cache that stores files so that Web pages show up faster.
The instructions for clearing your TopSpeed cache (or "footprint") are a little bit more complicated, but you shouldn't need to do it as often -- I also did up full, step-by-step instructions on how to clear your TopSpeed cache (it's the same link as before, just scroll down lower in the page).
In addition, AIM Pages guru Shawn suggests after you clear your browser and TopSpeed caches as listed above:
1. Shut down your AOL client software
2. Quit out of all instances of the Microsoft Internet Explorer Web browser
3. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panels > Internet Options > Delete Files... -- This is the same thing as clearing your cache (as above), but this time, check the box that says "Delete all offline content."
* Try the Firefox Web Browser: Another thing you might want to try is seeing if you can get into your profile by using the Firefox Web browser, which is a free, open-source Web browser. AIM Pages support of Internet Explorer had gotten a lot better (since we've focused a lot more on it), but if you're having trouble with AIM Pages, you might see if you can get into your profile using Firefox.
