Hi folks. So, one of the main features of this
week's AIM Pages release was the introduction of a new, lighter
Quick Edit Mode, which makes it easier for people to
create and update profiles.
Quick Edit mode is incredibly straightforward; it's clean and neat and easy to work with.
In fact, it'll probably take you longer to read this entry than to just make an interesting profile of your own, so I encourage you to play around: Jump into Quick Edit Mode now.
(In order to keep this from being monstrously long, this'll be the first entry in a series. I'll be mucking about with my ReadyAIMJoe profile. I never did anything with it, so I nuked it and started from scratch.)
The History:
AIM Pages first launched with a single, very powerful edit mode. You could choose from a whole bunch of different modules (created by the AIM Pages team, and also independent developers), drag-and-drop them anywhere in your profile, add custom HTML code, embed video and talking avatars and slideshow thingies and blog feeds and much much more ...
However, all these customization options were overkill for a lot of people who just wanted to tell the world a little bit about themselves and connect to their buddies easily. So Quick Edit mode was born.
The full edit mode is still available (and it's called Advanced Edit mode, not "Slow" Edit mode, as some people, called "wiseacres," might guess); you can get to Advanced Edit mode via a link from Quick Edit mode (or jump to it directly).
Getting Started With Quick Edit Mode:
Now, before you start creating your profile, you'll have a default profile at http://www.aimpages.com/[YOUR SCREENNAME], which will have a whole lot of nothing:
You can also specify ways for people to contact you from your profile.
Just check the box if you want that info to show up in your profile, or uncheck it if you don't.
And, if you don't want your profile to show up in the Profile Search, you can check that option (note that people will still be able to view your profile -- it just won't show up in Profile Search results.)
When you're ready to publish your profile, hit the orange "Save Changes" button.
Tip: Now, it should remember your changes as you move between tabbed sections, but I like to save changes as I go.
Another Tip: Open your profile in another browser window; that way, after you Save Changes, you can see your changes by reloading your profile, while still keeping Quick Edit mode open (switching in between windows as needed).
Like I said, it takes longer to explain than to actually do.
Thanks -- Joe
