Having Any Problems Adding Buddies to Your Buddy Gallery?

Hi folks -- so, here's a quick question -- is anyone having any problems trying to invite people to be your AIM Pages Buddy?

Inviting people to be your AIM Pages Buddy is how they show up in the
Buddy Gallery on your profile's main page and on your my My Buddies page.

We know of two kinds of problems right now:
  1. On your Add Buddies page, names won't load from your Buddy List. Instead, you get the following error:

"Sorry, an error occurred and we could not fetch your buddy list. Please try again later."

This may happen to folks who have a lot of screen names on their Buddy List (like, a few hundred -- and remember, with the new AIM 6.0, you can have up to 1,000 people in your AIM Buddy List). Or, they may already have a lot of folks in their Buddy Gallery.

The workaround for this is to type in the screen names of the people you want to add in the box, instead of picking from the list.

The team hopes to get the fix in soon (possibly this week, though keep in mind it's a short holiday week).

  2. You add a screen name, and you try to send them a Buddy Invite, but you get an error message that says "[Screen Name] is not a valid screenname."

If this happens, and you're sure that the person's screen name is correct (it exists, and you didn't typo it -- not that I doubt you), the most likely reason is a problem on the back end: The person has a valid screen name, but they've never signed in to the AIM chat client.

Why would someone have a screen name and never have signed in to AIM? They might have created a screen name specifically so they could create an AIM Pages profile, but haven't yet signed in to the software.

The workaround is to get the other person to signin to the AIM client (or even AIM Express), just once.

The team is looking into ways to fix this.
If you're experiencing other problems trying to invite people to be part of your Buddy Gallery, please let us know.

Thanks -- Joe
