Add Photo Slideshows With Slide & RockYou Modules

Okay buddies, I get this question a lot, so here's a tutorial on how to embed Slide and RockYou slideshows into your AIM Pages profiles.

It's not particularly complicated, though there are a series of steps you have to follow. It just breaks down into three parts:
  1. Go to Slide or RockYou and create your slideshow. When you've created the slideshow, they'll give you some code to embed your slideshow into blogs, profiles, e-mail, etc. Copy that code.
  2. Add the Slide module or RockYou module to your AIM Pages profile. (You can find both modules in the AIM Pages module directory.)
  3. Paste the slideshow code they gave you into the module and publish your updated profile.
Here, I will show you some step-by-step instructions, using Slide as an example -- the procedure for RockYou is almost exactly the same. (You can find full instructions and more help on each of their sites). And FYI, I'll be using some photos that the unsinkable Tony P sent to me a while back:

1. Go to the Slide.com main page. Click the "Make a Slide Show" button to get started.

2. Upload your photos. You can also add captions, customize the style and layout, etc. Click "Save" when you're done.

3. You'll be asked to sign upfor Slide, which you can do or skip (by clicking "Skip Signup").

4. This will give you some HTML code that you can copy. They also have a link specifically for AIM Pages, but you can take the code from any provider. Just click in the box to select it all, then press Control+C to copy it:

5. Go to the Slide module in the AIM Pages module gallery. Click "Add to Page":

6. This will open up your profile in Advanced Edit Mode. Drag the module to where you want in the page -- if you have a three-column profile, it needs to go in the big, center column; if you have a two-column module, it has to go in the big, right column.

7. Click the "Edit" button of the module:

8. Paste the HTML code you copied in Step 4 into the box. You can also give the module a title if you want:

9. When you're done, click the "Publish" button near the top of the page to save your changes and publish your updated profile.

If you take a look at the AIM Pages Team Profile, you can see in the bottom of the center column, where I've added a Slide slideshow (featuring Tony) and a RockYou slideshow with some photos I took from around the office.

One suggestion -- the more slideshows you add to your profile, the longer it will take to load, so try not to go too crazy at once.

Hope this helps. If you've embedded some slideshows into your profile, leave a comment with a link below so we can see.

Thanks -- Joe
