News from the Valley...
I have been neglecting my little corner here. Sorry about that. Well, lets see what I can pull up to update you all on.
Alyssa has loved being seven so far, but of course looking forward to being eight. Go figure. School is almost over for her, May 30th. Kind of sad, she's going to be in second grade soon, where did my little chubby infant go?
Elijah has been well....a BOY. Always into something, making a mess or playing Mr. Sweet guy( he really can be a very sweet boy, and I love that.) He keeps telling me he is going to be five soon(not til December). He sure is a handful, but worth it every minute.
Things on the so called "home front" haven't been the best. It just wasn't meant for two families to try and live together. We are staying with my in laws, and to make it simple and sweet I'm so very much OVER it, and so is Nate. My father in law is so hard to get along with. He drinks every night, and thinks he knows everything. Nate and him have been butting heads, and it's been ugly. Nate wants to get a second job, to save up and get us out of here sooner...his mommy and step dad say no, that's not a good idea. She kept telling me "that isn't fair" as like I told him to get a second job. No ma'am, I sure didn't, but I do want out of here, and quick. No wonder I'm always pissy, and ready to pull my hair out. So, that's that. Yay for me, right?
Little ol me, went to a new OB today, and I loved him. He was soo great, and never rushed me out, and really was great. He gave me a prescription for clomid, and I can start that on my next cycle from days 5 through 9, and will see me back in June, he has high hope for me, and thinks I will be pregnant by then. I really hope, I guess the not wanting anymore flew out of the window real fast. So, back to the waiting game...yippie
So that is the latest from the Valley.....the summer is coming, we were sitting at 97 today. Pheww, and heaven forbid we use the AC. UGH!!
XOXO

7 years....
Can't believe it's been SEVEN years since I became a full time mommy! Right now seven years ago, I was admitted into San Diego's Naval Hospital....really wanting to eat breakfast, but unable too. My mom was a tropper and stayed with me, didn't eat either. My husband was home sleeping but soon made it. Ten hours later at 7:18 PM, I gave birth to my precious little girl. Ahh the joys of your first born(that feeling never goes away with your other children) I was so proud of myself, and loved looking at her. Today she's my sassy seven year old, but I wouldn't change her for ANYTHING in the whole world!
HAPPY 7th BIRTHDAY ALYSSA!

One month later...
Some of the pain and hurt has subsided since I lost the baby, but don't that fool you. I'm still as heartbroken as ever. Today is one month to the day of that tragic day for my family. A day I will never forget, but hoping soon that day will be filled with happiness as I know that baby is resting peacefully above.
We are trying to get pregnant again for what would be the fourth time...sad to think I will be pregnant for the fourth time, yet only have two living, beautiful children in my life on a daily basis. I'm hoping my cycle is getting back to normal, as my little aunt flo has made her visit today as well...a clear sign of what I went through last month on this day.
I feel yucky today, so I'm planning on taking it easy...gotta love being a girl, right?

Lil bits.....
~I'm finally feeling better. Thank goodness it didn't last too long. I hate being sick. Still waiting for my cycle to get back on track, don't know when it will come, but I'm ready to try again for a baby. My best friend is pregnant, happy for her, just wish we were pregnant together. It will happen, just not in my time.
~The kids are good, getting big everyday it seems. Alyssa will be SEVEN on April 5th! Where does the time go? Feels like she was just born, sad how fast they grow up. Elijah is growing like a weed too. He never seems to stop talking, and comes up with some off the wall things to say. Boys...gotta love them and their ten thousand questions.
~Speaking of kids...they are going to break us. Ha. They went to the dentist, and boy was I wrong when I thought their teeth was doing good. Kind of put me in my place, and felt like I'm failing as a mom. Alyssa's never had any issues with teeth, she has the start of a very tiny cavity on the bottom in the back, should be able to stop it with better brushing and flossing. Then, the two baby teeth she has lost, one is in and the other has no room. Her teeth are so close together, the wider permanent teeth just don't have room to come in straight. She will need braces, weather we have four teeth pulled or not pulled. So, we've said no to having the four pulled before they are ready to come out. We will do the braces, when the time comes. Elijah, have some work he needs to get done in on his back teeth, small cavities in between his teeth. Those are doing as soon as we can, since he needs those teeth for some years to come. Since he is not five, he will have to be sedated, that's a pretty penny, and no insurance covers that. Joy! 315 dollars worth of work....ahhh the fun of parenting. Right?
~Nate's still busy at work training. He has completed all the test, and now is on the simulators. Says it's hard. I never doubted this would be hard, but I know he has it in him to do it. He's been doing Air Traffic Control for nearly eight years now...he can do it.
~The weather here is getting warmer by the day, summer is coming for sure and goodness we are going to be frying in the heat. Not looking forward to it. 110 degrees daily..yuck! I already sweat all the time, I will be pouring sweat by then.
Nothing else to report here....hope you're all well!

Back in the Desert!
We made it home last night, and as much as I miss my family I was so thrilled to sleep in my bed. The kids were great on the drives there and back. We all had a great, great time. I was so happy to see my family again. Look forward to seeing them all this June, and being there when my friend Kaya has her little boy..I get to be in the room. YAY!
I have a ton of pictures, but will need to get to those a littte later I came home and now I'm sick. YUCK. My voice is all cracked up. Sore too.
Hope you all had a great Easter!!

Heading home today
Change of plans again...go figure that just seems to be my life. My brother asked me to leave Phoenix today, so I can be there Saturday morning to see my niece and nephew play ball. It would be my only chance, since they don't play next Saturday. So, the kids and I will take on our 5 and half hour drive today after Alyssa gets home from school. Shouldn't be bad at all, almost a breeze trip, considering our 16 hour drive to Oklahoma last month. lol.
Lil Elijah now has a cold, and hard time sleeping lastnight since his nose is so stuffy or like he told me "my nose can't blow". Poor little guy.
Alyssa and I had a great time at the Zoo, I had her and three other kids and we had to go research the meerkats, so we spent 45 minutes there. We saw other animals, than stopped to have lunch and the rest of the class met up with us. Great weather, for a day at the Zoo. Can't beat going to the Zoo for 5 bucks!
I will be at my parents house on Monday for St. Patricks day...can't pass that up. Not about drinking to me, just another stupid reason for people to get drunk, not like they need a reason these days. It's about the dinner for us, Irish dinner. YUM!
Easter we will still be in California, but I have to eat and run since Alyssa has school the next day. I haven't even gotten anything for Easter. Money is so tight, these days. Oh well, it's not all about the gifts and buying a bunch of candy to rot their teeth or toys to lose and break. I will get them something small, and remind them what Easter is about.
Hope you all have a great weekend!!!

The Zoo and Cali Bound
What a week we have. I won't let anyone rain on my parade this week. First, Alyssa and I are going to the Zoo with her class. I volunteered to help with a small group of kids. Should be a lot of fun, if I don't pull my hair out. I know Alyssa is excited to have mommy ride the bus with her, and go see all the animals and such at the zoo. Grandma is going to stay home with Elijah, so I was able to go with her class.
Friday after school kicks off her Spring break, so Saturday morning we are HEADING TO CALI. I'm really looking forward to going "home"(Nate doesn't understand why I call that home...I'm from there DUH). The kids are so happy to go see grandma, poppop, cousins, aunties and uncles. They haven't seen them in nearly three months so it should be a lot of fun, I sure have missed them. I'm going to try and squeeze in a trip to Sea World, minus well use our passes. So, have a great week ahead, and a lot of stuff to get done.
I'm going back to Cali, and I can't wait!

Ms. Alyssa
My oldest had her first concert at school last Thursday. I didn't get too many pictures of the concert, we have it on video. It was the cutest ever. They did some ASL with a few songs, and they all looked to sweet. Elijah on the other hand, wanted to go saying he was bored. LOL He stuck it out, and clapped for sissy. She also won a poetry contest at school! So happy for her. She had to write a poem using the five senses, and her teacher turned it in to be judged, and it won. YAY! Love it when my kids do well, it's the best for a mom.
Ready for her concert at school.
One of the proudest moms ever! Love her to pieces!

Living with anaphylaxis
I don't personally have anaphylaxis, but my son does. As a baby he was on a breatfeeding only diet til he was 12 months old. Baby cereal would send him into shock, to the point of looking nearly dead. He was diganosed with a very rare protein allergy, called Fpies(Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrom) A small summary on Fpies....
Food protein induced enterocolitis syndrome, or FPIES, is a disease of infants and young children that mimics food allergies. Symptoms typically include vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), dehydration and low-blood pressure. The child or infant can appear lethargic, and over time can have problems gaining weight. Hospitalization for possible severe infection in common in children with FPIES.
Symptoms of FPIES typically occur shortly after consuming the culprit food. Vomiting starts within 2 hours after eating the causative food, and diarrhea typically starts within 5 hours of eating.
As a young infant he had about 4 episodes of this, before he was rightly diagnosed by a navy allergist. He was later shown to be allergic to, Milk, Eggs, Soy, Sunflowers, cats, dogs, grass, dust, and dust mites, along with peanuts. As the years passed, he was so healed and able to eat nearly every last one of his food allergies. He as nursed for 18 months, than placed on Vanilla rice milk. Being born he was nearly 10 pounds, but today you could never tell, he was a tiny toddler since we wasn't able to have all the milk and cheese most kids eat. Today, he can eat anything in sight, with the exception of Peanuts, which are the worst to be allergic too. He hasn't gone into anaphylaxis, like he did yesterday. We ate at a restaurant yesterday for lunch, he drank a glass of chocolate milk, and had an ice cream cone with sprinkles. As we waited outside the kids were running and playing, after awhile Elijah would stop, like he was trying to catch his breath, and want to throw up. I noticed two hives on his chin, and thought it was just too much dairy for him, and asked to drop us two off so I can take care of it. Within a 5 min car ride towards home, his entire body from his head to his toes were covered in hives and he was wheezy a bit. We didn't make it home, we made to the ER right by the house, they took him straight back. After listing his allergies it dawned on me. When people get peanuts for their ice cream, then have to carry the spoon over the sprinkles, and they drop into the sprinkles, but since they are so small and chopped I couldn't see them. He must have had a peanut on his cone, and it only takes a TEENY piece to send him into shock. Thankfully we had him in the ER and they took care of it all, gave him some meds, and an Epipen shot. He was miserable, itching so bad, crying, and so upset. We are going to get him a medialert bracelet for when he is in school, since every time he gets a peanut his anaphylaxis will get worse, as his body will react more harshly next time. Scary thought. The epipen will be my new American express, can't leave home without it.
What is anaphylaxis?
Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and may cause death.
What are the common causes of anaphylaxis?
Common causes of anaphylaxisinclude:
- Food
- Medication
- Insect stings
- Latex
Food allergy is believed to be the leading cause of anaphylaxis outside the hospital setting, causing an estimated 30,000 emergency department visits each year in the U.S.
Less common causes include:
- Food-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis (occurs when a person eats a specific food and exercises within three to four hours after eating)
- Idiopathic anaphylaxis (anaphylaxis with no apparent cause)
More information about these triggers can be found on our Common Causes of Anaphylaxis and Less Common Causes of Anaphylaxis page.
Who is at risk for having an anaphylactic reaction?
Anyone with a previous history of anaphylactic reactions is at risk for having another severe reaction. Also at risk are those with a personal or family history of allergic conditions, such as asthma, eczema, or hayfever.
Individuals who have asthma in addition to food allergies may be at increased risk for having a life-threatening anaphylactic reaction to food.
A recent study showed that teens with food allergy and asthma appear to be at the highest risk for a reaction, because they are more likely to dine away from home, are less likely to carry medications, and may ignore or not recognize symptoms.
|
How can I determine if Iāve had anaphylaxis?
Anaphylaxis is highly likely to occur when any ONE of the following happens within minutes to hours after ingestion of the food allergen:
1. A person has skin symptoms or swollen lips and either :
- Difficulty breathing, or
- Reduced blood pressure
2. A person was exposed to a suspected allergen, and two or more of the following occur:
- Skin symptoms or swollen lips
- Difficulty breathing
- Reduced blood pressure
- Gastrointestinal symptoms (i.e., vomiting, diarrhea, or cramping)
3. A person was exposed to a known allergen, and experiences:
|
What are the symptoms of an anaphylactic reaction?
An anaphylactic reaction may begin with a tingling sensation, itching, or a metallic taste in the mouth. Other symptoms can include hives, a sensation of warmth, wheezing or other difficulty breathing, coughing, swelling of the mouth and throat area, vomiting, diarrhea, cramping, a drop in blood pressure, and loss of consciousness. These symptoms may begin within several minutes to two hours after exposure to the allergen, but life-threatening reactions may get worse over a period of several hours.
In some reactions, the symptoms go away, only to return two to three hours later. This is called a ābiphasic reaction.ā Often these second-phase symptoms occur in the respiratory tract and may be more severe than the first-phase symptoms. Studies suggest that biphasic reactions occur in about 20 percent of anaphylactic reactions.
My poor little guy...
