On Monday June 30th, the singers and dancers from Bette Midler's Las Vegas show "The Showgirl Must Go On" at Caesars Palace will entertain the crowd and help cheer on the home team at the Las Vegas 51s baseball game.

To kick the night off on a high note, the famed "Harlettes" will sing the National Anthem. then 18 sassy dancers, who Bette affectionally refers to as the "Caesar Salad Girls" will band together to throw out the ceremonial first pitch in style.

Bette Midler's current Las Vegas show replaced Celine Dion in the Colosseum Theater in May 2008 after Celine closed her 5 year run.  Bette's show alternates with Cher's new Vegas show and also with Elton John's Red Piano show.

It's been 10 years since Las Vegas strip headliner Frank Marino, who stars in "An Evening At La Cage"  at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, had a guest starring role on Baywatch when David Hasslehoff had to go undercover as a drag queen. Frank is a special reporter for Extra and just happened to spot Hasselhoff when he was filming a piece. He decided to see if David would look as a blue-haired lady!

Hasselhoff is no stranger to the Las Vegas strip, having previously performed here in "The Producers" show which ran at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. Marino, who performs nightly as "Joan Rivers", has won the "Best Dressed Las Vegan" award several times. "A female impersonator is just a person who has too much fashion sense to be one sex", he said.

Las Vegas has long been known for it's excellent entertainment. One of the performers most synonymous with Vegas is Elvis Presley. During his run at the Las Vegas Hilton he set many attendance records for Las Vegas shows. He also spawned a huge line of impersonators. One of the very best performing today is Trent Carlini whose high energy show can be seen at the famous showroom at the Sahara hotel and casino.

As was recently noted by the Las Vegas Shows Reviews blog:

Trent Carlini provides a true retrospective of the King’s career and song catalog, beginning with early standards such as “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Hound Dog”, continuing into the "Jailhouse Rock" and "Viva Las Vegas" Hollywood hits and building to the crowd-pleasing "Burning Love". Carlini also weaves in "Love Me Tender", wandering into the front row to romance a couple of ladies and inviting more toward the stage for a kiss on the cheek, provided they’re 21 — yes, he really does ask the girls who appear under-age!. The show includes all the King’s standards, even a spot-on rendition of "Little Sister", the track later immortalized again by Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin.

Two big screens provide background footage and narrative that fill the spaces between sets allowing Carlini to make his costume changes from 50’s zoot suit style Elvis, to black leather clad Elvis, to the studded-cape King. Sometimes videos simply provide set-up for the next musical sequence, as in the Las Vegas Strip stock footage that runs through "Viva Las Vegas".

In another interlude Carlini sends a love note to fans, revealing the double-entendre of the show’s sub-title. Using clips from his own youth interspersed with performance video, he explains his lifelong passion for Presley’s music and persona. He view’s his ability to channel Elvis as a gift. Using this gift to deliver the music and message worldwide provides fans with their "Dream King" and makes Carlini "King" of his own dreams.

Trent comes to Vegas with a long list of accolades, including numerous TV apearances such as "The Tonight Show" and "Late Night With David Letterman." He also was named "Entertainer with the Most King-like Charisma" by Global Records and had headlined the "Annual Birthday Tribute to the King" for the past decade. In addition to the previous accolades, Trent won ABC TV’s "The Next Best Thing" competition, giving him untimate bragging rights.

He's backed by a top-notch five piece band plus a quartet of dancers whose varied costume changes span the several decades of the King's popularity. After the show the audience has a chance to purchase memoribilia from the show plus have Polaroids taken with the man himself. Las Vegas has seen many impressionists paying homage to the King's legacy over the years but none do it better than Trent Carlini. If you're longing for a piece of Vegas's past, Trent is your ticket!

Fab Four Mania Brings The Beatles Music To The Las Vegas Strip

The showroom at the Sahara hotel and casino in Las Vegas has played host to some great musicalacts over the years. The latest great act to play this historic venue is the Fab Four Mania . In the spirit of the famed "BeatleMania they are a note-for-note re-creation of the Beatles and their legendary music.

As the Las Vegas Shows Reviews blog recently noted:

Functioning as M.C. for the evening, impersonator/comedian Paul Terry gives audiences his best Ed Sullivan, introducing the Lads from Liverpool, and padding the costume changeovers with routines that manage to evoke late-60’s colloquialisms, while also satirizing the genre with a knowing wink. The faux Fab Four hit the ground running from their opener, offering up some of the Beatles’ earliest hits while the crowd keeps busy throughout, providing syncopated claps during "8 Days a Week," twisting at their seats for "Twist & Shout," and singing along with many other standards.

The next act segues into psychedelic Sgt. Pepper/Magical Mystery Tour territory. Crank up the distortion! While paying accurate tribute to the most recognizable hits from those years, the set might benefit even further by pulling out a gem less often re-visited, such as "Fixing a Hole," and reminding audiences that not every song in the Beatles catalog evolved into muzak. Ringo does get his due in Fab Four drummer Tony Felicetta’s sweet rendition of "A Little Help from My Friends".

Before the final act Steven Craig (A.K.A. John Lennon) takes to the piano for a solo "Imagine". While all the fans in attendance heartily concurred with Craig’s heartfelt expressions of grief and outrage over Lennon’s fate, the maudlin speech may momentarily take the show’s tone down a notch more than it deserves. Remarks emphasizing Lennon’s life, rather than the nature of his death, might enhance the effectiveness of this set piece. Not to mention that "Imagine," a selection from Lennon’s post-Beatles solo career, digresses somewhat from the "Fab Four Mania" concept. Beatles tracks such as "Let It Be", "Strawberry Fields", "Come Together" all aptly evoke Lennon’s personal spirit and philosophy equally well. Nevertheless, Craig’s "Imagine" gives fans an accurate and respectful recreation of the beloved classic track. And the choice not to insert any cheesy video montages, but rather let the music stand on its own, proves correct.

Kudos do go out to the behind-the-scenes crew as well. They have managed to put together some unique montages of the Liverpool Lads from that era, rather than the usual shots we're all so familiar with. Clips of the real "Penny Lane" and the surrounding area really highlight that number by adding a matching visual to the outstanding audio. Another Beatles medley performed by British people they filmed out and about on the streets of England proves another perspective about how the average person still loves their music even a generation later.

The cast members are all about as close to the originals as you could get. From Paul's left-handed upside-down bass playing, John's signature stance and glasses, George's shy nature and Ringo's happy-go-lucky peronality, you'll be taken back to another place and time. If you close your eyes you'll almost swear you're in the audience in Shea Stadium or watching the Ed Sullivan show. Unfortunately many of my generation didn't get to see the Beatles. But the Fab Four is a close as you can get to the original!

A great Las Vegas entertainment tradition is the "tribute" act. Many of us weren't around back in the day to catch Elvis or the Rat Pack. But their memory lives on with several tributes shows. One of the best and longest running tribute shows is An Evening At La Cage which has been running at the Riviera Hotel and Casino for an amazing 22 years!

As recently noted by the Las Vegas Shows Reviews blog:

Believe it when you see it! There’s no need to go back in time to experience the legendary Diana Ross and sophisticated Judy Garland, and you don’t have to squint your eyes to witness the dance moves of Michael Jackson and Britney Spears in large overcrowded stadiums. Why not intimately see them all on the same evening at the snazzy zebra-striped Mardi Gras Pavilion of Vegas’ one andonly Riviera Hotel & Casino?

Presented by stunning female impersonators of famous celebrity superstars such as Madonna, Celine Dion, Cher, Dolly Parton, Britney Spears, Judy Garland, and the mega-diva Diana Ross, you will be so enthralled by their performances that you will forget that they are in fact merely impersonating! When "Celine Dion" performed “My Heart Will Go On”, her passionate facial expressions and mannerisms were flawlessly identical and encompassed a witty charm. For a moment I was so excited to catch one of her final Las Vegas performances at Caesar’s Palace until of course I realized Bette Midler had already replaced the show.

For those with the fashion flare, you will delight in the "Gucci" and alternate designer gowns and furs flaunted by host Frank Marino while presenting each artist of the evening, not to mention the revealing and "voguish" outfits of the artists themselves. Speaking of vogue, performing "Music" and "Express Yourself" in le cabaret de La Cage, "Madonna" is the two-fold slim, sexy pop icon in the form-fitting white cowgirl suit and hat and the hysterically burly-beautiful, cone-breasted-corset expression of… well… herself.

The performers are all very talented and you soon almost forget you're watching impressionists rather than the real thing, and yes, they're all female impressionsists! Frank Marino has been voted "Best Entertainer Of The Year" for his role as "Joan Rivers" and has also been honored by the Las Vegas Walk Of Stars. His star can be seen on the sidewalk in front of the Riviera casino.

The show is very entertaining and enjoyable and is well worth seeing! You're in for an evening of fun and laughter along with great music and wonderful performances. Shows have come and gone here but La Cage's longevity speaks volumes about it's levelof entertainment.

Mac King’s Comedy Magic Delights Audiences In Las Vegas

Mac King's Comedy Magic is one of the more enjoyable shows now running on the Las Vegas strip. His show is currently seen in the Showroom Theater at Harrah's Hotel and Casino.

As recently noted by the Las Vegas Shows Reviews blog:

“Howdy, I’m Mac King,” he says with a shrug and a smile. Mac King hails from Kentucky. His twang coupled with his plaid used-car-salesman-chic suit will make your sixteen-year-old think that the show is going to be a snoozefest. But, Mac King pulls everyone in with his first rope trick, and the crowd is on the edge of their seats for the next hour. He pays attention to his audience, and they return the favor. He acknowledges the interrupting whoops and hollers when an onstage volunteer tells him she’s from Ontario, and quips, “Everyone’s a Canadian.” Another volunteer writes her name on the back of the card instead of the face, ruining the trick. “Could you come back every time and do that? It’s funnier that way,” he says.

He makes us laugh by putting on his ridiculous yellow raincoat of invisibility and impresses us later when he really disappears. When the lights come up after his encore trick, Mac King waits in the lobby and greets his audience, thanking them individually.

“Tell your friends about my show,” he says, “I’d like to keep this job.” He shouldn’t worry, anyone who sees him perform will be talking about it. Mac King’s act is one of Vegas’ treasures. Signed with Harrah’s in 2000 for a two-year contract, The Mac King Comedy Magic Show has currently been extended through 2011. As they are leaving the theatre, Micah and his friends go to the stage and pick up snipped pieces of the rope from his opening trick, examining the ends. “It’s just plain, cotton rope!” “How did he DO that!?” “I’m going to keep it and see if I can figure it out!” They tie the ends together and rush out to the lobby to wait in line and ask him personally.

As the show title suggests, Mac has a combination of comedy as magic in his show. In fact, he was voted Best Comedy Magician at the 2007 World Magic Awards! He was presented the award by fellow Las Vegas magicians Penn & Teller who appear at the Rio Hotel & Casino.

His show is for the most part PG-13 so there's really no worries if you're going to bring the kids. Anything he says just will probably go right over their heads! In fact the only question they might ask later is "Wow how did he do that!"

The show isn't a typical "Vegas" show. There's no animals or showgirls or huge stage productions which you'd normally expect to see. But his "aww-shucks" personality and passion for pleasing the audience more than makes up for it. He's a great talent that's worth the price of admission and guaranteed to leave you both laughing and scratching your head in amazement!

Master Magician Lance Burton Heats Up The Las Vegas Strip

Master Magician Lance Burton is one of the longest running shows currently on the Las Vegas strip. After getting the chance to see his spectacular show is's not hard to see why!

As recently noted by the Las Vegas Shows Reviews blog:

Lance Burton is a world champion hall of fame magician who does amazing things in surprising ways. You’ll be applauding from the first bird suddenly appearing from a burning candle stick to the last act when he flies away in his “Back to the Future-ish” Corvette. During this magical journey you’ll experience classic magic moments, thrilling contemporary illusions, laugh a lot, and even learn a little about the history of magic.

He tears newspaper and birds fly out of the scrap, he burns magazine covers and birds fly out of the ashes, and from out of no where he fills the stage and theater with ducks, geese, and pigeons, including “Elvis,” a little bird with a big act.

Lance pulls kids out of the audience and makes them levitate and disappear and then gives them magic gifts when they reappear and come back down to earth. He also uses his show girls to full effect, making them appear and disappear at his will, in and out of some pretty fantastic costumes, in several very exciting production numbers . He even turns one of them in to gold!

He also incorporates a sexy levitation scene that you may have to explain to the kids later! Lance is given a breather in the show by Michael Goudeau, a comedic juggler whose brief show is entertaining as he ups the ante in the comedic and danger elements of his jugging routine.

Burton is quite at home with the audience. His off the cuff jokes work well and his Kentucky accent helps his strength as a friendly performer as he wows the crowd.
