I feel bad for the mother who now has to deal with people who don't know her or her situation taking shots at her parenting skills. You cannot watch a child 24/7, nor can you protect them from everything no matter how hard you may try. Nearly every mother has a story about their child getting hurt or into trouble when they turned their back "for just a second." It happens to the best of parents and the worst.
