Out-of-Control Boat

After the captain fell overboard, this boat circled out of control in Florida. People, have we learned nothing from this clip? Be more careful while boating!

Twenty years ago the same thing happened to me on a 16' Bayliner. The 'kill switch' I was wearing got caught somehow and ripped through my shorts and when I went overboard the first thing I saw was bubbles and the boat heading to Fire Island. The boat's safety mechanism causes the boat to run in circles. Maybe it is the unattened steering - or the force of the water hitting the prop. When I surfaced the boat was coming right back at me. For a seeming eternity I was in the center while the boat circled me. It was like the sharks circling in a cartoon. I swam out of the circumference and then a good sam plucked me from the drink and a passenger on his cigarrette boat performed a daredevil move and jumped in the moving vessel. It was some scene. About twenty boats gathered on the Great South Bay watching the whole incident, the coast guard was present. I thought it was going to be on the front page of Newsday.

Saw the same thing happen in Acapulco years ago. There's a small Mexican Naval station there..... a Navy launch and its operator somehow parted the ways. The launch circled and we were entertained for quite some time as boats tried to come up along side, trying to get another operator to jump to the runaway. I believe that they finally just let the boat run out of gas.
