COnfessions of a MAD Antique Dealer

I watched an incredible...program tonight on Franklin D ROOSEVELT...and what an incredible job he did as president....he was not only articulate....but although coming from the upper upper class, saw the needs of the people...all the people, and did what was necessary to bring the country out of the depression...and cure social ills with minimum wages,  child labor laws,social security, various welfare programs, Works Progress Administration.....hiring millions of unemployed...and started building roads, parks, playgrounds, large building projects, endowment for the arts, brought electricity to 90 percent of rural American, that still didnt have it....and on and on and on. He was very unpopular with the rich..but did a lot of good.. His wife ELENOR, who caught him having an affair with her private secretary..LUCY.....was another upper class person, who was early into civil rights, and went all over the country and later all over the world, during WW2  She was an amazing person...with a heart of gold. She was akin to an Ambassador of good will, labor relations, racial relations,.....and helped FDR from afar. She almost could have been considered Vice President.......but had not title.  She wasn't a happy camper either, because, although they had children.....and grandchildren, she allegedly had an affair with poetess Bethune.....and FDR with another one of his secretaries.  The press, in those days, had respect..and weren't rumor mills. He had his MONICA, but no one really knew about it..most people in America didn't even know he was crippled from POLIO and could hardly walk with the use of a cane. The press in those days focused on what was important.

I was impressed with stories that I didn't know, how he met Winston Churchill in secret...slipping away from the WHITE HOUSE and the PRESS, going on a boat to meet Churchill on a War ship.....to discuss WW@, which we were not yet involved with. Churchill had this meeting in secret to ask for help.....Roosevelt couldn't join the war at that time...but did send in secret, our warships to escort British supply lines....and this is before Pearl HARBOR....other things that impressed me was that ROOSEVELT was discussing POST war America. He wanted to implement a National Health Program, minimum wage, Quality living conditions for EVERYONE....etcetc He was an extreme liberal for his time,,,,,,and a capitalist as well....and coming from incredible wealth....this is surprising...his Wealthy friends and school mates....hated him for his behavior.....but FDR was for the common man. There are things he did that was wrong.....he listened to his war advisors too closely. He did nothing to help the JEWS in Europe....when he might have liberated the concentration camps....and he put JAPANESE AMERICANS into camps right here in AMERICA>..for no reason other than being of JAPANESE descent. But had he not helped ENGLAND, and declared war on the AXIS powers...I might be writing this blog in GERMAN....and then again, might not have the permission ...or freedom to do so.....and because of the war, and winning it...I can call BUSH here an ass hole scum bag...because this is the freedom that we protected....freedom of speech.  Hey FDR and Eleanor, if they have computera and blogs in Heaven, or Starbucks up there with computer access, and your sipping a latteand reading my blog....just want to say THANKS.
