President Musharraf's book tour
One of my good friends Zaheer just pointed out that Pakistan's president General Prevez Mushrraf has authored a book (with help from a ghost writer presumably) titled 'In the Line of Fire: A Memoir' that should make interesting reading as it is quite unusual for an incumbant head of state to publish an autobiography. The book is being launched towards the end of this month (September 2006) and he is also embarking on a book tour including an appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Tuesday September 26, 2006.
For those who don't follow events in South Asia closely, General Musharraf took over the government in October 1999 in a bloodless coup. He got pushed into geopolitics limelight after 9/11 and aligned Pakistan closely with the US in the war against terrorism. If he's been candid in the book, it should provide an excellent insight on how events unfolded that led to the coup and his subsequent handling of the 9/11 aftermath, Taliban in Afghanistan, the confrontations and peace process with India, etc. I've placed a pre-order for the book on Amazon:
