Welcome. So it would seem that several AOL employees had blogging as one of their new year's resolution as a plethora has sprung up over the last month or so (Justin has a list of employee blogs which includes our Vice Chairman Ted Leonsis and my department's SVP Sree Kotay). I decided to jump on the bandwagon due to a number of reasons: a) I've been toying with the idea of starting a blog since late 2003 or so (even created an account on blogger.com that never went beyond a test "Hello World" post) and with so many fellow employees taking the plunge, this seemed to be an opportune time. b) As Sree mentions in one of his recent posts, we are doing a lot of cool software development "stuff" at AOL but most people still just consider us an ISP. My day job is leading projects to create AOL's next generation Platform (more on this later -- my work is related mostly to the host-side services as opposed to the Open Client Platform which runs on a consumer's machines). So the hope is to get some word out there about what we're trying to achieve and share my comments on technology, software engineering and project management in general. c) But this will not solely be a work-related blog -- occassionally I'll ramble on about other topics like cricket, movies, books, travels, Star Trek, etc, etc.
So that's the plan. Let's see how regularly I keep blogging once the initial excitement and enthusiasm wears off :-)
I guess I should mention the standard disclaimer at the outset: as far as discussing AOL's technologies and products and plans, I will strictly follow our employee blogging guidelines [internal AOL access only]. And obviously, the views expressed are my own and not necessarily those of my employer AOL or Time Warner.
