New Dance Hall

Hey guys,
Sorry for the absence,  I have been creating a new journal/blog over at blogger.com.  Partially because I have some issues with AOL doing  the advertising in my journal.(Though for me this is just another lump on the huge pile of issues I have been accumulating over the past year or so.)  But other reasons include that I really like how the journals work better over at Blogger, and anyone can post comments in them easily, not just AOL journalers.  Seems friendly to me, and I like friendly.

Another reason is because I can access it easier from any computer (there's that EASY word again), even if it doesn't have AOL software on it.

And it's free, and I am going to leave AOL in about a month altogether.  Saves me nearly $30 a month, and I think it just makes sense.

Hopefully this won't mean that so many of the wonderful people I have come to know and absolutely love and honor through these pages won't give up on the Poetry Dance.  I have spent most of my weekend postig old posts in the new journal (it lets you backdate them, so it is kind of cool) and so you can see you're poems there, for them most part.  I didn't post every poem, but chances are, you're is there.  If it's not and yount it to be...  nudge me and I'll comply.  ;)

I also have links to the journals of "Frequent Dancers".  If your link isn't there and should be, lemme know.  It was a lotta work and I am sure I missed stuff.  If your link is there and is wrong, lemme know and I'll update and fix it.

As for the Poetry Dance Website, I haven't gotten alot of comments or responses that have made me think it is popular, and so unless anyone hollars I am going to let it also go shortly.  It will start costing me money soon, and if there is no interest I am going to let it go.

The new dance hall can be found here:

Poetry Dance Hall

Come by and have a look.  Put your pin on the guest map and say Hi.  :)  There will be a new Dance Assignment this afternoon.  ;)

I have dropped by this morning and visited all the journals and entries left since Friday.  And all I can say is...

Wow.

Great stuff guys.  If you haven't taken the time to do so go to the last entry and take a peek at all the poems in the comments section.  I don't have the time to create a new entry with links to all of them, so you'll have to put some extra work into it and peek at the comment section.  Heh.

These are all so good, and so fun :)  I have really enjoyed this one.  :)  I won't be posting another Dance until week after next, so feel free to write more of them, I will do a few more as I have time.

Gotta say it again ...  great stuff you guys!  Keep Dancing!

NEW Poetry Dance :)

Okay, here is the new Dance.  We're going to be doing a nonet.  According to ShadowPoetry.com, "...a nonet has nine lines. The first line has nine syllables, the second line eight syllables, the third line seven syllables, etc... until line nine that finishes with one syllable. It can be on any subject and rhyming is optional."

The recipe for the nonet looks like this:

line 1 - 9 syllables
line 2 - 8 syllables
line 3 - 7 syllables
line 4 - 6 syllables
line 5 - 5 syllables
line 6 - 4 syllables
line 7 - 3 syllables
line 8 - 2 syllables
line 9 - 1 syllable

And the two poems I came up with (so far!) are these:

November in New Mexico and
The air is crisp and trees are gold,
Holidays are coming 'round
And winter's lurking near.
With joy my heart sings -
Celebrating
Love, life and
Seasons
Change.

And:

This angst is an ancient stone I wear
Pulling me down into waters
I can't seem to rise above,
Drowning me helplessly
Here in my own fears.
Normalicy
And my strength
Escape
Me.

They aren't too hard, they don't have to rhyme, so have a go at it.  :)  I am excited to see what you guys come up with!

~Dawn :)

Got my dancing shoes on :)

                                            Journal Graphics (assorted) photo

First it was Hawaii, then it was a sick kid, then it was...  oh this must sound an awful lot like: "blah blah blah blah..."  Yeah. I know.  Excuses, excuses.

I am back.  No more excuses.  However, I am going to change things around a little bit so that there won't be so much difficulty for me to keep up if a little disaster hits at home.

First, the weekly Dances are going to become bi-weekly. For those of you who don't know, or who have forgotten, the Dances are assignments in which anyone can participate.  Each assignment challenges those who want to join in to write a poem in the weekly posted format for the week.  There are no winners or losers, just great poets.  ;)  I can't post all of the Dance poems, because there has sometimes been such a good response that I cannot keep up.  But I will chose a few each week to show off here and at the Poetry Dance Website.  If you participate in a Dance you need to post it in your own journal and post a link here, or if you don't have a journal you can post the poem in the comment section here.  (Posting in your own journal is best since not everyone reads the comment sections though.)

Second, the Poetry Challenge is currently bi-weekly, but will now be a monthly contest instead.  There are winners in this, first, second, and third place as well as a honorable mention.  Winners get "tags" that are created for that individual and not used again, to use in thier journals, websites, or whatever they'd like.  The poems for the Monthly Poetry Challenge can be in any form, but must be on the posted topic.  I will post all of the winners here, and all of the participating poems in the website.

I will be posting stuff to the journal of interest if and when I find anything, and encourage anyone who has a new poem they want myself or other journalers to see to post a link to it here so we can have a peek :)  I get so many emails everyday from people who don't even have journals talking about what great poets you all are.  No kidding.

As I have mentioned before, I am looking for help if anyone wants to pitch in.  I need judges for contests (one time volunteer or whatever, I am needy) and anyone who has ideas, spare time, graphics, or anything else.  A friend of mine offered to host a Poetry Challenge in her journal for a Dance, and I have considered it.  It would be fun for her (so she claims) and give me a little break.  :)  If you have good ideas, send em my way.  :)

I will make a new entry in a about an hour for the new Dance and for the Challenge.  Keep your eyes peeled and your dancing shoes on.  Can't ya here the music?  It's time to dance!

Congratulations Winners :)

Just a quick update to the ntry because I have access to the winners tags now.  :)  If you are a winner and need help saving or posting this to your journal, let me know.  ;)

This Challenge was to be written not about a topic, but a photograph.  This one, in fact:

The poems were all wonderful.  :)  I sent them to the judges (I only had two this time around...  I REALLY need volunteers!  hint! hint!)

Lost Time

I built castles in the air
wishing for another day
but found the bricks all strewn about
like leaves in autumns disarray

Stop the clock now, hold me close
for soon the world we've know will fly
Seconds, minutes, hours ... ticking
How it hurts to say goodbye

In simpler times I wished for more
but now I wish for simpler times
a moment lost when you were here
but now our love is lost in time.

The Ledge

Two shadows standing there,
With silent mesmerizing stare.
Their senses seemingly unaware,
Of the drumming of their souls they share.

For behind the clock on the ledge,
Echoes the most beauteous of tunes,
Mysteriously strummed by love true,
A melody, they did pledge.

One more night on the ledge with you,
Two more sunsets cast their hue.
Three more sighs in the wind,
Four more loving aromas ascend.

Four loving aromas boomerang back,
Three sighs return on the wind,
Two sunsets forever etched in their souls,
One more night on the ledge, they will spend.

Love's Prodigy

My time is all I have to offer you
You say you want to be close to me
Shout from the rooftops I belong to you
Suspended in time as you lay next to me
Vestiges of brief moments in one another's arms
Capture our love's commitment and time well spent.

Lost Time

Lost Time
Harsh words filled with anger.
Firey insults aimed to cause pain.
A pride filled heart,
heavy and full.
The unrelenting guilt eats away, as I ask,
Were the few moments of control,
worth this loss I feel?
I wanted to feel the power,
to try to win.
There are no winners.
Only wasted moments and lost time.
Time I should have been silent
to reflect life's beauty
and challenges.
Time to learn and grow.
Time I will never get back.

Frowns, smiles, and hugs.

Wow...  I come back from my crazy weekend to a ton of mail, and a nomination. :)  What a nice way to start a day.  :)  Again, many apologies to everyone for my abseces, I have neglected the journal and the site.  Life has been... umm.. hectic.  Heh.

My ten year old, David, has asthma and pneumonia, and I am currently uninsured so the last couple of weeks have been daily efforts to get him what he needs, and nights with little sleep while he struggles to get over his illness.  My oldest boy has been having school problems, and the staff there don't seem to understand that I have more than one child to take care of or why I can't show up at the drop of a hat.

It has been, in a word... frustrating.

We are a family who loves one another though, and we always get past the worst of everything and move on.  This too shall pass.

I haven't had time yet today to look closely at the nomination, but what an honor that is!  And how nice of so many of you to drop by and post the congratulatory remarks.  This, my friends, is why I love AOL journalers so much, such sweet and thoughtful people.

Technically I should have had the last contest winners posted and the new contest announced, but as you can tell I am behind.  There is alot for me to do, and I am working on it as I can.  :)  I have to say, I read over so much of the poerty you have all done for the Dance and I just smile every time.  Such talented and fun people you guys are!

I'll be back this afternoon with some updates ... hopefully I can cacth up by the weekend barring any more distasters.  lol.

Hugs and grins to everyone, and thanks again for all the nice posts and emails.  :)

~Dawn

Notes and Reminders

Hi Guys,

Sorry I haven't been here.  I haven't forgotten you, or the Dance, I have just been swamped with little disasters here.

Just a note to remind you that this evening at midnight is the cutoff and deadline for the Poetry Challenge.  The photo to use is below if you wanna try to squeeze in a last minute entry ( or two or three...  ) I won't be gathering them all until tomorrow.

Hopefully I'll have some more time in the next few days to get it all caught up.

Miss you guys :)

Dawn

Ch..Ch...Ch..Changes...

Okay, I am being flakey here, but last night I realized I can't wait a month to see and post Halloween Poems.  So...  I changed the Poetry Challenge for the later half of October to a Dance (assignment) which means you can write and post as many Halloween Poems as you like.  Check the changed entry here:

http://journals.aol.com/auburndawn/PoetryDance/entries/240

The Acrostic Poetry dance is still open as well, for those of you who want to do a few more of those.  I am personally enjoying that one, so I will probably try the double.  No promises.  Though Celeste did one..  you should check it out... wow!

Another Poetry Dance...  Halloween :)

Alright guys....

I was going to make this the next Poerty Challenge, but I don't think I wanna wait until the end of October to post these, so I am going to make it into another dance instead.  The truth is, I am hoping if you have the extra time some of you might write more than one and submit it, because this topic happens to be one of my favorites...

soo..

This dance topic is "Halloween".  Interpret it like you wanna, create what you can.

Funny, scary, cute....  love poems, story poems, nursery rhymes .... rhyming, free verse or whatever else you wanna pull out of the proverbial hat.

You can still post the acrostics if you like...  and you have all month on this one.  I will be posting them to the website as I get time :)

Have questions?  As always...  lemme know!
