David Ortiz’s take on steroids (http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=81335) is sure to piss off Ignorant Whitey, who thinks "that this country ain’t got no rooms for peoples who doesn’t speak English.” Ortiz says steroid testing is culturally biased because of the language barrier. This is common sense. Of course, Ignorant Whitey will have none of that. “Thems foreigners gots to learn our language if theys wants to work here. Just because they doesn’t understand ain’t no excuse.”
While Ortiz presents a very valid point, he also ignores that a person from extreme poverty might be more likely to use performance enhancers, especially if they are faced with going back to that poverty. Baseball has used Latin America as a chattel pen for decades, exploiting cheap labor to fill the minor league ranks. If baseball were serious about eradicating steroids, they would not treat Latin minor leaguers like dirt.
