Subject: Selling the old house
Time: 2:55:38 PM PDT
Author:  balkbbalk

I am getting a divorce, one of the many reasons I have not been writing here, and I had the agent come out to look at the house we are about to sell. A friend of mine had used him and gave me his number, she had sold a turn of the century home in the area and had found him very helpful so I called him. I was not prepared for his comments once inside the house. He said he hoped we did not mind the fact that he had walked the property before our meeting and that he had attempted to send my grandmother into the light. I was shocked and speachless. I really was not sure I wanted him to do this, I had felt that of all the spirits here she was looking out for us. He said she was attached to the propery and did not want us to sell. I knew that, she had said that before she died. Sometimes one can not help things, however, and the house has to be sold. The agent said he explained all to her and that she moved on. I really could not talk to him about it much, I was so shocked. I asked my friend if he had done this to her and she said the subject had never come up. The house is still full of spirits anyway, even without my grandmother, and I do hope they stay friendly.

Just a short note to say that I called my friend to see if she had seen her hallway ghost lately. The ghost hasn't been back, it must have just turned up in my honor.

It is still quiet around my old house. The spirits are on their usual summer vacation but I expect them back as soon as the days grow shorter and the weather gets colder. Why do you suppose they get so quiet during the summer?

I like to share my friend's ghost stories here so I will tell the lastest one. Yesterday I went to a friend's house to celebrate my birthday, she has been in her beautiful new house for three weeks now and was proud to show it off. As she took me on the tour she drew me aside and told me what had just happened. Earlier in the evening she was chopping vegetables in the kitchen and she saw a woman walk past the open hallway door. The dog growled and chased after the woman. My friend thought someone had broken in and followed the dog down the hallway. Terrified she looked in every nook and cranny all over the house but there was no intruder. Taking up her kitchen duties once more she again saw the woman rush past her door, again the dog gave chase. This happened two more times during the course of the meal preparation. I wondered why the hair on my arms stood on end in that hallway when I first walked through, I really could feel a cold spot as I came in. There is remodeling going on, perhaps a former inhabitant does not approve!

Subject: Quiet Summer

It has been a quiet summer in the house, the voice is still, not much has turned up missing. I did turn the house upside down looking for a hooded jacket to take to the beach, even to the point of pulling everything out of the closets. I was alone in the house, and finally stood in front of the closet and asked for my jacket to be returned.(I have learned this works quite well) I opened the closet again and there it was hanging right in front. It had been gone for months. "Thank you" I said, just happy to have it back for the trip. For the most part however, the summer is very uneventful around here. I wonder if it is the added daylight? Usually around October it gets eventful again; shapes, voices, doors opening - they all start up again. I guess they have a summer vacation. It's nice, actually, I forget I live in an active house and just relax. I am not afraid at all of my ghosts, but it does keep you in a kind of alert frame of mind. I am careful to rule out all the mundane possibilities before I conclude an experience was otherworldly.

My daughter studies upstairs in her bedroom next to the attic, she likes to put a pillow at the foot of the bed and lies there to read. Like most of us these days she has a mountain of pillows for her bed so she just grabs one of those. The other day she anounced she was going upstairs to study, went up and then came right back down. She had the pillow off the downstairs couch in her hand. She asked if her Father or I had neatly placed it at the foot of her bed for her to use while she studied, but no, neither of us had gone upstairs all day. It seems when she announced her intention of going up to study, the ghost kindly set up her spot for her. (She studied that day at the kitchen table)

The attic in our house is in two parts, The large part is over the main section of the house and is empty, there is a trap door in the ceiling of the second floor but we would have to use a ladder to store things up there so we don't use it. The part we use is accessible through a door in my daughters room. It is fillled with my grandparent's things, everything from old trunks of pictures and school papers to hats they used to wear. I can't keep the light working in there, even with an electrician's help so I have given up and taken the bulb out. Even so, there have been nights, walking up our hill in the rain, where I saw the light on in that attic room. At times, I have been chased out of there by what sounded like squirrels running at me but the pest control man did not find any evidence of them there.

My daughter had a little trouble with the attic the other night. It is the only place in this old house that scares me. She heard tapping on the other side of the attic door, heavy breathing and some odd growling noises. I will write more later...

Well, I had a couple of things, the first happened night before last as I was falling asleep. I was listening to Alison Kraus. "I'm just a ghost in this house" was playing as I fell asleep. I know, of all the songs I could be listening to! It must have struck a chord with my ghost because as I lay there, all alone, everyone else asleep in other bedrooms; someone squeezed my hand as it extended outside the safe covers. It was a strong grip, warm and extremlely startling. I jumped up and turned on a light. I have been leaving it on ever since and I won't be playing that song in the house again soon! The second event was my daughter losing her nose stud, a large trauma for her as she had no replacement, it was a 30 dollar item and the holes close very fast if you don't keep the post in and you have to have the nose redone. She looked everywhere, felt around on her hands and knees and looked for hours. She was beside herself and had to give up. The next time she went upstairs, there it was, twinkleing in the light next to her clock. There is no way she would have missed it had it been there before. She did remember to say thank you to our ghost for finding it for her.

Subject: Something Borrowed or The ghost has a cold

Last night my daughter needed some allergy medicine. I had gotten it out earlier and had placed it in a basket on the right hand side of our cupboard so it would be there when she needed it. As we got ready for bed she asked me where it was and I told her where I had placed it. No, it wasn't there. I got up, it had to be, I had just put it there! I looked and it was indeed gone. I went back to bed, while she rummaged through the medicines. I heard a crash as shampoo bottles fell to earth in her search. She asked me to come out and help her look so I got out of bed and walked to the cupboard. There, right in front, at eye level, was the allergy medicine, leaning up against the shampoo bottles that had just fallen to the floor. My daughter stared in fright and exclaimed, "I just put those bottles back on the shelf, and I did not put that Benedril there in front of them!" She could not sleep alone last night.

Subject: I have been missing lately
Time: 8:42:13 AM PST
Author:  balkbbalk

I haven't felt much like writing lately, too many sorrows have intruded on my life, my Dad got better but my Mom has been dealing with serious health issues. Some deaths among my circle, some illnesses among friends..all are hard to bear. I guess it's just my age, I do remember when it seemed no one ever died. One friend died in her husbands arms, so sweet and sad all at once, she was lucky to be loved like that. Anyway, the ghosts are quiet, only a few soft whispers in the night. When I feel better I will write more of past encounters, I have many and I love to share the tales.
