METAL FOR MUTTS
BARC members Tara and Michael Manierre are working hard to help raise money for the Central Brevard Humane Society. They will pick up scrap metal (any metal appliances, pieces, sheds, cans, hot water heaters, car parts, a/c units, bicycles, etc.). They recyle it and make donations to the CBHS. If you need help removing any unwanted metal items, please call (321) 729-6004 or (321) 544-0995 or send an Email to 3dogfamily@peoplepc.com. Here is a link to their new Website: http://mypeoplepc.com/members/3dogfamily/metalformutts
CASH FOR TRASH
This program also benefits the CBHS. If you have any empty laster or inkjet or fax cartridges and would like to donate them, please click here for more info:
Both of these programs help to clean up the environment and also help raise funds to benefit the Central Brevard Humane Society.

WE SAVED THE DOG PARKS!!!
Based on an article in Floriday Today dated 7/18/07, In an attempt to cut expenses, "dog parks will no longer be staffed, though fees will be collected to pay for maintenance." The County Commissioners agreed to keep the dog parks open without attendants.
A big thank you goes to those of you who wrote to the legislators and the county commissioners to let them know that the dog parks are important to you! The Parks & Recreation Department told us that those letters and Emails helped to save our dog parks from being closed!
The Parks & Recreation Department originally planned to start the collection of fees again when the last fiscal year started on 10/1/07. Things were going very well at the dog parks without having an attendant present so they decided to leave the dog parks open and not have an attendant or fees. If that changes, we will update the information on our Website.

Subject: Brevard County Off-Leash Dog Parks
Time: 3:11:17 PM EDT
Author: barcemail
Welcome to BARC
WHAT IS BARC?
We are a not-for-profit, tax exempt organization located in Brevard County, Florida. We started in June, 2001, when a group of citizens got together to discuss off-leash dog parks. At the time, there weren't any in the county. We formed our organization to try to encourage the county to build off-leash dog parks; provide educational information regarding dog parks; promote responsible dog ownership; garner a fraternal spirit among our members and to raise funds. Any funds that we raise offset our operating expenses and help to pay for amenities in county dog parks.
Off-leash dog parks are fenced-in areas where dogs can legally and safely run, play and exercise while under the supervision of their owners. Dog parks are quite common and very popular throughout the country. We decided that we wanted dog parks here too!
In the beginning, we held a petition drive and, with the help of a lot of dedicated dog owners, we were able to collect signatures for over 6,000 people who agreed that Brevard County was overdue for some dog parks. In 2002, we met with the Parks and Recreation Department and told them about our petition drive. We were very pleased that they agreed with us that dog parks are needed here.
Since then, BARC has grown to over 500 members. Dog parks have opened in Satellite Beach and at Wickham Park in Melbourne. The latest addition is a new county dog park at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach.
