Yeah...An American Skating Medal!

February 20, 2006
Congrats to Ben and Tanith! After a 6th place start in the Compulsory dances, they took advantage of an Original Dance event- that was full of uncharacteristic Falls by the top contenders. When their opponents made mistakes...they stepped up to the plate and jumped into second place and did not relinquish that spot.
Ben and Tanith have mastered this new system, giving the judges exactly what they are looking for. Combining very difficult footwork sequences with an artistic flair--makes them the best U.S. dance team in decades. Their on and off ice dedication to perfection, has earned them our first dance medal in 29 years.
Where the pairs, ladies, pairs--all focus on jumps, spins, and footwork...the Ice Dancers spend hours a day on posture, choreography, musicality, and very detailed-intricate footwork. I have so much respect for the ability and skating skills of these dancers. After working with an ice dancer (former US Champ Peter Tchernyshev) on my footwork...I realized when he did it...it looked a lot better than when I did it. So much so, that the steps didn't even look like the same steps!
So.... YEAH for Ice Dancers!
And most of all... YEAH for our first Skating medal!
Sasha, Kimmie, and Emily....you're next!

This historic moment -- sit back and enjoy!! Who knows when it'll happen again!
Never take victory for granted. Stop and smell the roses! -
Finally, an American medal in Ice Dancing. Ben and Tanith skated so well without dramatics, theatrics, and the god awful costumes the Russians like to wear. And she is so pretty!!!

Tanith and Ben are golden in my mind! They demonstrate the true Olympic spirt: doing your best, enjoying the moment, and taking pride in your sport. Bravo for handling the competition with the grace and sophistication that should be associated with Figure Skating. They are a true testiment to American patriotism and sportsmanship.
I hope the Italians were watching. Shame on them for acting like children, especially in front of their home crowd! -
Couldn't be happier for Ben and Tanith!.. too bad it was overshadowed somewhat by the "antics" of the Italians. Never did understand that.. she was ticked at him but it was HER that couldn't hold on!.. Diva Diva Diva.. lol
Ben and Tanith came across as if they were skating just for the love of skating and not "for points", (but i'm sure they were) which was refreshing to watch.. really happy for them..
Now if Cohen can only NOT FALL!..
