Sasha Misses Practice?

Every one has made such a big deal about Sasha taking the practice day off.  People are saying....What does it mean? Is she injured? Is she nervous?  I find nothing to be alarmed about.  For a over a week...she has been in the spotlight---every move, every practice, every word spoken...scrutinized.  That takes it's toll.

Skaters train about 6-7 days a week....with a day off here and there to rest and recover.  She has been critiqued now for a week and a half....and the short program takes not only physical energy, but is a huge emotional strain as well.  She has already proven she is ready for this competition by her performance in the short program.

Athletes know themselves very well.  If they need a break....they listen to their body.  This is not an unusual strategy for Sasha.  She is very efficient with her preparation.  She has a plan, and she's sticking to it.  She has been training her whole life for one PERFORMANCE....Not one Practice!

So Sasha.....relax. Take a load off.  Do what you need to prepare.  Your Gold medal will be won TONIGHT....not on the day off!

Michael's right--athletes at this level KNOW their bodies, and their mindsets.  Each prepares in a special way --Obviously Sasha's way works for her!

Note to Britelgts--Emily Hughes did indeed get there and finished a respectable 7th overall.  BTW, an overlooked fact this past month or so has been that if ANYBODY had some cause to feel slighted by Michelle getting a medical exemption, it was Emily--yet she chose to limit her public remarks to wishing Michelle a complete recovery.  Something to think about for a certain silver medalist who had the one and only guarranteed slot on the U.S. team due to finishing 1st at nationals?  Guess it proves the point that medals alone do not a champion make--good luck for the future, Emily!

Leave Sasha alone! She is a great skater and very talented and beautiful. She did great and won a silver medal. How many people can say that? Certainly not the people here who criticize her. I'd like to see any of the critics manage to even stay vertical on the ice!

Sasha was incredibly graceful.  No one could touch her beautiful execution, poise, posture, connection with the music and delivery.  She will master the technical and become the skating inspiration every little girl dreams to emmulate.

Cohen's performance was not a medal winning one at all. She is lucky to be walking away with that medal. The Japanese however should be proud of this girl, she was quite something throughout. Calm, composed, quiet and clean. I am very happy for her.
I wanted Irena to win, I think over the years she has been one of the best. But she did fall and I don't think that anyone should medal when they fall.
I guess it's time for the newbies to come out of the woodwork and start a new generation of skaters.
I truly missed Michele tonight, in my book she is a gold medalist a hundred times over. a real inspiration. I'm sorry she is injured, and hope we haven't seen the last of her.
