How Did You Shoot That?

Am not sure what information folks want when this question comes up. I use the Nikon D100 and Nikon D300 cameras, two old lenses [from the days of film] and three current lenses [a telephoto, a wide angle and a macro/micro].  I shoot at different times throughout the day.  A lot of time is spent watching light to get the desired effect.

When it comes to my settings, I shoot in Manual.   The process has become instinctive and intuitive--my choices are automatic [from years of practice] and change according to the atmostphere and mood desired.

Experience is the best teacher.  There is no way I can share everything that goes into a shot.  My choices create a different "look."  There are infinite possibilities.  Much is considered before each click of the shutter.  There is no set formula.

Suggestion 1:  Experiment.  Carry a notebook, or start a journal.  Take notes.  Record your progress and experiences. Compare images.  See which ones achieve the "look" you want.  Then, keep shooting to develop your very own unique, individual "style."

Suggestion 2:  Read everything you can on photography and the arts.

Suggestion 3:  Practice, practice, practice.  Shoot, shoot, shoot.
