AIM 6 beta 3 is live

Anxious

Greetings:

A new version of the AIM 6 beta software - 6.5.3.12 - is available for download. Check it out here:

http://beta.aol.com/projects.php?project=aim6&loc=0

One major fix in this build addresses the incompatibility issues between the live video features and built-in cameras in HP, Toshiba Satellite and Sony Vaio laptops. The build also incorporates enhancements to features such as the Status Messages.

Take a moment to download this build and send us your comments.

As usual, many thanks for your commitment to beta testing.

Best regards!

Update On The HP Video Issue and More

Hopeful

Hi:

There has been a significant delay in the release of the AIM 6 beta 2 client. It has been over 50 days since the release of the beta 1 version of the client. We apologize for the delay. Trying to get a build as close to GM standard can be good and bad:  On one hand, the builds are much better. However, the negative is, at times, it takes significantly longer to get builds out to Beta.

The good news is we are getting ready to release another build shortly. One of the issues scheduled to be fixed is the HP internal cameras not working with AIM's Live Video feature. This build will incorporate Proxy Settings, features such as Status Messages and much more.

Check out the AIM 6 beta area next week!

With warm regards,

Live Video Issues With Built-In Cameras!

Hopeful

Hello everyone!

We are now on AIM beta client, version 6.2.14.2.

If you are using the video chat feature you may be coming into an issue that gives an error message such as "Your camera is already being used by another application. Please exit all applications that are currently using the camera and try again.".

We are receiving reports appearing primarily on HP's Pavilions  and Sony Vaio computers.  There is a theory that the HP and Sony OEM webcams share the same USB controller chip.  Some people have had success by simply rebooting the computer.

We would really like to track down this error and correct it.  If you are receiving this error and have some available time to help us test this out, please email Beta Cathy.  I can send you a file that will track what is happening on your system and give us details on the error.

In addition, you would need to make sure that you are using AIM version 6.2.14.2 and that your buddy is on the same version.  Provide me information on YOUR's and YOUR BUDDY's type of computer, connection type, firewall information, etc.  There are many variables that we need to try and narrow down.

Thank you for all of your testing efforts!
Beta Cathy

AIM 6  Is Back In Beta!

Happy

Hi all:

Our apologies for not posting on this board for a while. Moving forward, we will work hard to update this board a least once a week. We will talk about various topics on the AIM 6 client, whether it is the latest top reported issue with the client, a cool feature or just interesting ways to use the client.

We will also attempt to make this board more interactive by also discussing other non-AIM issues - such as the our personal  interests. Of course, the main focus of this Journal will always be AIM 6.

So we have a new AIM 6 beta client, version 6.2.14.2.
It has new features such as Themes, Buddy Notes and Notification redesign.
Please take a moment to download it and tell us what you think about it. Other features are slated to be added as we move forward with this series of beta tests.

My interesting tidbit for this week is: The Settings window can now be accessed offline. In other words, from your Sign On screen, you can access the Settings window and manipulate your Sounds and other settings. Try it out and let us know how useful it is to you!

Thanks for testing AIM 6 and I look forward to more interaction with testers who visit this Journal!
