A very sad day.

Sad

I am so sad... so very sad. I still can't believe it has happened.

He seemed okay this morning. By 9 a.m this morning, his back legs wouldn't work. Took him to the vet. She examined him, thought it was a back problem, prescribed pain killer and anti-inflammatory drugs.

I gave him his meds between 12:30 and 1:30. By 3:00 pm we could tell he was in dire shape. He was heavily panting, and his tongue looked purple. We took him to the Emergency Animal Hospital.

By 4 pm the doctor was telling me he was in bad shape, that he looked like a dog about to check out. They put him on oxygen right away. He did some bloodwork, gave him something to help with possible anaphylactic shock. Took a chest xray. There was fluid in his lungs. Max had a seizure at some point, they put him on oxygen, said he would have to spend the night at the animal hospital, they would call us at 9:00 to let us know of his condition.

We went back to the patient room to see Max and tell him we were leaving, to tell him we'd be back, that we wanted him to get better. It was about 4:15 or so.

We drove home. I jumped in the shower. When I got out, Steve said to get dressed. They had called and told us to come get him. He was gone. Just like that. He might have had a stroke. I am heart-broken... we are both going to miss him. Misty is going to miss him.

I can't write any more. It all happened so fast. I'm still in shock.
