Feeling Sad
Dedicated To Cherokee
Cherokee and Lakota
Well I must say that this has been a very different week. Monday I went to the hospital; that is a long story. lol I am fine. Will explain that later. Today I put my beautiful 120 pound White German Shepherd down; Cherokee. She was really bad and could hardly walk the last couple of days. I gave her extra attention knowing that the vet was going to be here today at 3 p.m. She enjoyed the attention but was not really herself. When I heard the vet driving up the lane... my heart was aching and wanting to tell him to wait. I wrapped my arms around her neck and pulled her head close to my face and talked to her. No movement and I held her for a couple of minutes without knowing she was gone. Oh Wow! Was that hard. She would have been 11 years old in August.

Cherokee and Shawnee

Lakota cleaning Cherokee's eyes and giving kisses.

Woof Woof !!
Gary started digging the hole late yesterday afternoon. He dug it deeper today. She is between 2 large trees on the pond dam. Gary enclosed the trees a long time ago with pipe. We put 4 large concrete blocks over the grave and rocks all around the blocks. The vet suggested that we pour lime in the grave so a wild animal will not try to dig her up. Later I plan on putting some small metal fence around the area and buy one of those big Statuary German Shepherds to put on top of it.
I allowed both of the dogs to be present when the vet was here. Shawnee got very upset when Gary put Cherokee on the tail gate of the truck. It is best that they see. I learned that when I had to put my mare down 6 years ago. I did not allow my other horse to be there and he almost had a heart attack running through the field screaming and looking for her. He had to be locked up for 2 weeks before he acted normal. Shawnee got under the desk and acted like she was crying. She would not come to me when I called her. Both of the dogs have known there was something wrong with Cherokee for a while. Both dogs would wash her eyes and face. She would allow them to do it for a while and then she would growl and say... enough is enough. The dogs will be fine soon. I took the pictures before the vet came. She looks fine in the pictures, but she wasn't.
I pray that all of you are happy and well. All of you are in my daily prayers. I am sorry but I will not be comment until the 2nd week in June. God Bless, Janie
