Book Maven Interviews: Jennifer Egan

                                            Cover Image

Please consider tuning in to my interview with Jennifer Egan about her wonderful new novel 'The Keep.'

'The Keep' got a harsh review from Entertaintment Weekly (although EW.com does offer a two-chapter peek), with which I couldn't agree... less. I was sucked in to Egan's gothic world from the first page, and while her characters are not easy ones to love, I nevertheless found myself wanting to know more about them and wanting them to survive despite their grim histories.

Egan has attempted an ambitious narrative trick in combining a tale told by an incredibly unreliable narrator with the story of that same narrator's incredibly unlikely muse. Does she pull it off? Perhaps not completely -- but I was dazzled by her attempt.
