Why I'm not attending the National Book Festival
Today is the sixth annual National Book Festival. There are some wonderful authors there and it is a terrific family event -- go! Take your children!
I've been to four of previous five Festivals (I didn't make it to 2003's event because we were hosting some European friends who wanted to visit Amish Country instead). At the first one, I spent the entire day interviewing authors (20 in all) for PAGES magazine and had a marvelous time meeting Marie Arana, Alice McDermott, Donald Westlake, Sue Grafton and many others.
But there comes a point where even the most enthusiastic Book Maven knows she's had enough. It's been a busy fall already, and I'm saving all of my energy right now for The Quill Awards on October 10, when I'll once again be busy interviewing lots of authors (as I already do on AOL Books).
If you do go to the Festival today, tell us about it here, or email me: bookmaven2005 at aol dot com. We'd love to hear about your experiences -- and right now, at 10 a.m., I'm hoping that those of you who do go don't get rained on...
