The New Michael's?

For years now, Michael's has been the media hotspot for lunch in mid-town Manhattan -- so much so that Mediabistro.com has long devoted a section of its Fishbowl NY blog to who's sitting where and when.

Now, your Book Maven is no power luncher. I've been to Michael's precisely once, and it was for an AOL Coaches event. But it does fascinate me -- and why not? It's a place where you can find Dan Akroyd and Al Roker, Gerry Byrne and Brian Glazer, Kati Marton and Regis Philbin, Manolo Blahnik and Mike Wallace.

But after my boss Jennie Baird and I had  a truly relaxed, delicious and productive lunch on Friday at A Voce with David Nudo and Cevin Bryerman of Publisher's Weekly, we all joked that this Andrew Carmellini and Marlon Abela (from Greenhouse in the UK)-run restaurant should really become "the new Michael's." It's just steps from the Reed-Elsevier building, on 26th between Madison and Park, and not only is it quiet, elegant and modern -- the food is superb. (Here's the lunch menu.)

Now, while A Voce is hot and does not need my recommendation to get clients, I do think it would fun if at least the publishing types (if not the TV, movie and other media folks) who frequent Michael's would consider a trip just a tiny bit south...

If you read this and you have a meeting over at PW and you do try A Voce, let me know: bookmaven2005 at aol dot com. See you there soon!
