Woo Hoo....On Vacation for a Week.....

We had our employee Christmas meal today and it went very well.  I am so proud of my coworkers and boss pitching in to help set up.  They are so good at it too.  It takes exactly 2 hours to set up the tables, put on the table covers, add decor to the tables, and then start getting the food set up and prepped, glasses of ice for 70 folks and all that.  For this meal, the employees brought in pot luck and we had Cracker Barrel deliver the ham, turkey, and dressing and gravy.  It was all so good.  I am usually in the break room from 9:30 until about 2:00.

So I had only a few hours left in the day to do work in the office.  I still had leftover benefit issues and some employees still have yet to turn in forms or missing information that I've tried to collect but they are not responding to.  I have so much on my desk and it keeps piling b/c all I've done is benefits the last 2 to 3 weeks, except for work on a few legal cases.

It was very stressful the last hour today.  So many people came out of the woodwork to start requesting that I do things for them, check on something for them, enter something for them, find out something for them.  I finally had to start saying "sorry, I can't get you an answer today, do it today, and won't be back until next Thursday".  What else can you do?  It's NEVER a good time in HR to take a vacation when the department only has one person.  But it is what it is.  I've delayed and delayed my December vacation.  Sorry.  It's my time to have a break.  I know it's inconveniencing people, but I'm sorry.   I used to have 10 hours of help a week and now it is more like 10 hours of help per month and it hasn't been a big deal since the hiring has slowed but it is a big deal when I go thru something like open enrollment and especially one where the benefits completely changed. So I can't worry about it.  It's my turn for a break.  They all want theirs.  I've delayed mine so all could have benefits.  I'm taking my turn!  And after this entry, I'm worrying about it---NO MORE!

Just so frustrating at times when you really care about what you have to do on your desk.  But at least no one is screaming at me.  I'm much harder on myself than anyone else is.  I think some take advantage of that too.

Ok, it's time to relax, and enjoy.  And you know.  NOW, I'm glad I didn't get those vacation days I had planned for the first two Friday's of the month.  Because....in my working career, I don't think I have EVER had a week off a Christmas that I remember. So YAY!

I'll be poppin' in and making entries from time to time and tonight I'm going to breathe out a sigh of relief at all the stress and rushing....and I'm going to focus on my family and on me.  Because it's long overdue.

Nite Nite

I'm so glad you have a week off.  You DO need to take it for you.  I mean, you do so much for other people and they need to get on the ball and get things turned in on time.  Lots of Love!

Glad to see you have some time off, you deserve it.   Too bad for the people that could not meet their deadlines.......they will just have to wait.  You did the best you could for them, but they could get to you with the information on time.

Enjoy the week, have a great Christmas and give everyone a hug for us.

Oh Sonya, you definitely deserve the time off.  You can only control things that you have in your control.  Others are supposed to be responsible and hold up their end of jobs...  that lawyer will just have to wait.  Like you, I took a week off too!  Tues to Tues, back on Wed the 26th.  We have a rule at work, so that others can take off too, you can only take off before or after the holiday, not over the holiday.  It seems to work best for my office and my staff.

Hope you thoroughly relax and enjoy your holiday week off work!  Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Thank you Bookncoffee for all you do for your employees.  I know from being there how hard you work and how much you get done.  The Christmas luncheon was great today.  The food was very good and the fellowship among employees and we two retirees who made it there was excellent.  I really enjoy getting invited to the special occasion parties that you all have.  I don't understand why more of our retired people don't show up more often.  Thank you for all the hard work you put in to making these luncheons always turn out memorable and great!
Thank you most of all though for being my friend.  Merry Christmas to you and your family.  Love,  Bee
