Saturday Morning Outlook

Hubby's little elf.....He overlooks our concrete table on the back patio.

Below is Hubby's garden....tomatoes, peppers, and various herbs.  He actually found some rare herb plants that he had read about.  I'll have to tell you later what they are.  I've forgotten myself.  Some odd type of oregano, is one of them.  The gardening center/nursery that we discovered is awesome.  Hubby went back yesterday afternoon and bought a few more things since he had room left.

Here is where I planted impatiens and I have forgotten what the little red striped flower is in the back of them.  You know me...LOL  I'll learn eventually.  Too many other things crowding out my memory.

Iris bed and also has lilies in it.   Do you think I need to thin these out some?  Most of the beds here have been thinned out but these are getting thick aren't they?

These will be much prettier when they grow.  Begonias.  There is also some dusty miller in some spots.   I should have just removed all the dusty miller since some beds have it and some don't.  I may pull it out still.  I thought begonias would be easy this year to keep with so much going on.  Next year I think I might do some varieties.  Let's do this...if these were your beds what all would you plant here?  Leave your comments.  I will look forward to reading your ideas.  This lines the sidewalk at the edge of the house going down to the driveway.   Well you can't see the side walk here but it's just on the other side of the grass (LOL).  This was EASY on the back to plant b/c you can stand up on the other side to do it.  LOL.  I loved it.

We couldn't find a place to put this until I discovered the spot b/w the two garages.  Works great.  My poor petunias (that I always end up calling tulips b/c I'm getting old- LOL) were an afterthought.  I bought too many flowers.  A mistake a lot of us make when planting.  It's very hard to guess how much you need.  I need to go and count up my plants for each bed so next year I don't over spend. And it will save time as it took me forever standing there at the gardening center trying to go thru it in my mind.

Another old planter from the other home.  This is Vinca.  Proud I remembered?  LOL  Had Vinca left over and when Hubby brought the planter in that had my pansies in it from fall and winter...I just plopped these in and they are doing fine.  The pansies will not like the hot weather anyway.

Oh look at this below, lining the sidewalk going to the patio... in back of our house....it's so pretty.  What is it?  Gardenia?  Heck, I don't know. Quit laughing at me. LOL  I will need to clean out underneath it.  May wait til it quits blooming.  LOL

The rhododendron? Finally bloomed last weekend.  Very pretty to look down on from the sunroom too.

I'm leaving you so many pics that AOL is probably going to blow up soon so look out.
The garden elf again and I planted some impatiens at the edge of this garden area.

I bent down low to take this picture at a unique angle.  I really like the way the picture came out.  It makes the little cherubs seem life like playing in the garden.  See the ciladiums?  They bring me good "chi" as the Feng Shui concept would say.  LOL

Someday I will leave an entry on Feng Shui... I don't believe the root of all its concepts, but I do believe in placing things around you that make you feel good.  And that good feeling you get when you pass something in your house that makes you feel good is energy they call "chi".  Something like that anyway.  TheTeen and I have laughed about placing things in the house.  It is a phrase I've said a lot...."no that gives me negative chi"...."no that stops the energy flow".....and to have corners of furniture or things pointing at you is called "poison arrows"....thus giving you an eye sore.  I wonder if that is where that came from.  LOL  So I do like the concepts and think they work.  However, I do not think that taking a red envelope and placing something wood from the old house in it and throwing it in a river will help the house sell.  LOL  Well, I'll stop here 'les I end up doing my Feng Shui entry right now.  LOL

More pics of the little back garden against the house.  I love this area.

Oh yeah and I forgot to show this iris picture the other day when I did my other iris pics.

So happy here.  Yes we are.  It's our own eden of sorts.  God has blessed us with this pre-landscaped area and house and we are thankful.

Hubby has gone to the local library this morning.  We have an old cemetery in the woods behind our house.  I will take pics of this eventually!   He has already found a historian contact that has done much research at grave sites in our county.  She is very knowledgeable.  She has referred him to certain books that have been written about her county and feels this may be in there.  She knew of our cemetery.  How exciting huh?  So he has to go register with the library - or may have to sit in the library to read the info.  I need to get my card registered here too.  The library is not far at all.

Well, today I will work on school, do laundry, and clean.  Hopefully will get to some more unpacking.  Hubby put my china cabinet in place and so I can put up my china very soon.  I also need to do some cleaning here and there.

Oh Hubby just got back and has the name of the cemetery, the names of those buried there, and the oldest grave is 1891 and the newest is 1933.

Well, I best get started on my day. Much to do.  Thank goodness I do not have anywhere I need to go today....unlike the rest of the weekends in May.  It is going to get very busy in the next few weeks & weekends.  I can't imagine it any more busy.  That is why I must get thru this class.  Much headway needs to be made this weekend.  I'll not enroll in next one until at least June.  It has been hard to move and study. Again, thank goodness no paper this time.  Or I'd be toast on this one.

Everyone have a good day and a good weekend.

I love your flowers!!  Those brick planter beds are going to be so easy to plant and care for!!  What wonderful landscaping you have.  OKay now I am drooling on your gardens!!  We have a very long way to go to get our yard in shape.  I am so pleased you have these wonderful flowers.  I think you made excellent choices for the borders and things.  Vinca does so nice in pots and planters!!  I found that out last year by accident LOL.  Yes begonia is such a nice choice and with a little fertilizer those will get big and showy and they don't need a lot of care just the usual watering and mulch!!  I think that pink shrub between the two others might be an azalea shrub.  Oh I am having so much fun thinking about what to put in the planter by the driveway...?  Petunias would look lovely there and they like the full sun.... and they would get nice and thick there.  Petunias would be a top choice for me.  Maybe I would do some petunia and mix it up with some geraniums in some sort of design or something.  They both like full sun.  They are both showy and pretty.  Snapdragons might be lovely there as well.  They like full sun.  More vincas would do beautifully there.  They also like full sun and they get big and showy as the summer progresses.  And you can get pink and whites ones to make a lovely splash of color.  Summer day lilies would be nice too as those come back each year and require so little care and they have a lot of foliage.  I don't think I would go that way though because I would want that spot for annuals and I think you have many lovely perennials all ready.  Yes, I think I would go with something along the lines of your favorite annuals that like full sun as it looks like it gets full sun mostly.  I would not do marigolds there though.  Though they like full sun I don't think they would be showy enough for that particular spot. &nb

Love seeing your plants...and the new planters are perfect.  Your hubby is going to do somekind of good cooking with the new herbs he found too.  I am using old planter boxes...can't run out and buy new this year...maybe next year...guess they look okay.  Hope you have a beautiful Sunday...hugs and love,

I love color, especially, blues, pinks, and purples.
You have so much to choose from with all the space you have..pick something you love and plant it everywhere!
Geraniums, and dahlias...marigolds, all would look good.
    Happy Planting:-)

They had perfect planters for all those flowers. The flowers you planted behind the white impatients are coleus. The pink/purple flower between the two shrubs are  azaleas. I like hubby's herb garden. That way they can't spread all over the yard. I hope he finds out more details on the cemetary. Have a nice weekend puttering with all those flowers, if nothing else you can just walk around looking at and enjoying all of them. Helen
