NJIT Appoints a New Mens Basketball Coach

I went over to the student center about 2:45 to get an ice tea.  I saw a sign announcing a press conference for the Athletics Department.  Since the announcement was for 2:00 PM, I just arrived for the tail end of the announcement.  Jim Engles, the former Assistant Coach at Columbia, was announced as the new coach at NJIT. (http://njithighlanders.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/041008aac.html) Regular readers of this journal know that the basketball team finsihed at 0-29, the worst Division I record in history.  Obviously there is no way to go but up.  I certainly wish Jim Engles the best of luck in his new endeavor.  I have expressed doubts over the advisability of moving into Division I sports.  The school is facing very big budget cuts in all areas so it will be very difficult to recruit student atheletes who can be competitive at the Division I level.  Let's hope for the best.

New York Highlanders (they would change their name to the Yankees in 1913).
Look how successful that franchise became in later years.

I hope the new coach is as smooth as the new logo.  Nice.
