In The Begining Part 2

As Thursday progressed, Sara's diagnosis was a possible blockage in her intestines. They met with a surgeon that day - much to the dismay of the parental units.  No one wanted a knife-happy doc cutting on their little girl.

The game plan was to give Sara some time & drugs and wait and see if the blockage would move itself and clear up things.

Friday morning (early, still dark, considered by some Thursday Night) Sara went into shock.  They did emergency surgery on her.  They found that there was no blockage to her intestines - there was no blood.  The intestines had herniated upon themselves.  A hole/loop formed, a large section of her intestines went through that hole, then the loop closed back on itself cutting off the blood supply to most of her small intestines.  Her intestines had died from lack of blood and had to be removed.

Saturday the doctors went back into Sara to debried and remove any more dead tissue from the area.  They would have to go in each day and remove tissue until they did not find dead tissue.

Sunday they returned to Sara's abdomen.  They found, what she thought, were viable, healthy ends.  No more tissue had died.  (Welcome to our story Grace, Hope, and Love - will you play with us for a while?).  Sara had 18" of small intestines left - enough to survive with.

Sara was kept in a drug induced coma for a week.  This would allow her battered body to heal for a while.  She was in the SICU unit for weeks.  Allowed visitors only at certain hours.  Her parents stayed by her side.
