First Night
Sara is doing good. She's awake, alert and able to breathe - they took the respirator out this afternoon. She is in a lot of pain - but, that's a no-brainer, isn't it?
Because of the nature of the surgery and the organs involved, she cannot have any opiate based pain meds (dang, no morphine! that's a bummer, dude)
The doctor said that she will have some good times & some bad. He said to appreciate when it's tolerable and things are going good because it's not all roses. There will be some very difficult times ahead.
There is no real prognosis as to when she is expected to get out of ICU, the hospital, or come home. There are so many variables, so many germs (of which I bind in Jesus' Almighty Name!), so many seams & sutures (Of which I bind together with the Almighty Duct Tape of Jesus' Name!), and many other things. She could stay a few days in ICU or a few weeks. Realistically, we are looking at a several month healing process before she can come home.
(Look, who is that playing over there on the teeter-totter? It's hard to see in the setting sunlight, but it looks like Hope and Grace. Can you see how their faces shine? Can you feel the joy they spread wherever they go? Gosh, it makes me so proud to say they are my friends. I only hope I can be that kind of friend. Will you help me, Jesus? You're a good friend, too. I really appreciate you. Looking at them, you almost get the feeling that they leave a trail of themselves behind wherever they go.)
