Monday on Tuesday
I apologize for not putting in an entry yesterday. I had one about 2/3 finished when the computer locked up on me causing the waterways to open.
Sara continues to improve. The doctors are quite pleased with her recovery thus far. Sunday night she had a slight fever. The doctors are thinking it could be coming from her femoral port, so they have ordered that to come out. She also continues to retain fluid. If you could imagine toting anywhere from 40-60 pounds of fluids - that is what Sara is dealing with. It causes her guts to get squished and breathing isn't as easy as it should be. Not from fluids in her lungs, but the fluid everywhere else pushing and stretching on all the boo-boos. So, they have put her on some lasiks to try to get some of the fluids off of her.
Another "good" thing about Sara is that when she came to the hospital for her transplant, she was as healthy as she could be and not addicted to anything. Unfortunately, many of the patients that come to Miami for transplants have been sick for so long, they are addicted to the pain meds long before they get here. It's puts another "issue" into the mix of what the doctors have to deal with to try to help their patients. Sara was healthy and drug free. That in and of itself brings the optimism level of the doctors way high.
The goals the doctor set out for Sara this week are to get off the TPN (her IV feedings), get her totally on the post-digested food, and start her on some food orally. She is taking some pills by mouth. So far, things are working as they should.
Thank you for all your prayers and love. Feel free to keep them up!
