Scamers  Scamming

I have to tell you what happened yesterday----I did this 2x yesterday and it was eaten up. I was watching Paula Deen's show anddozed off--sorry Paula--and the phone woke me up.

It was a man with a very strong accent--like India Indian. He said he was calling from Social Security and that they were sending new medicare cards and he had to verify my address. He had the number, street zand town, but zip was wrong. He asked more questions which I didn't answer, and kept repeating about new medicare cards. I was just waiting for the big question of my SS or medicare number--but hung up on him when he asked for mother's maiden name. I called SS and after about 20 minutes got a live person who told me to call medicare---so I did, and they told me to call the inspector general's office and report it--I did!

So neliesha and I both got it the same day! Be careful all you Jlanders. The crooks are on the move!

I'm glad that you're on your toes. You're absolutely right, the scammers are EVERYWHERE these days, and we have to be on guard 100% of the time. Good job, this story could have had a tough ending otherwise.

Good to see you, as always. You made me smile a little, mentioning how you dozed during Paula's show, lol. Been there, done that!

    Hi Barb,
I'm glad you hung up on him.  Unfortunately, I'm sure that some people fall for these tricks and that's what keeps the scammers in business.  What's the world coming to?!?  It's gotten to the point where I shred virtually every piece of junk mail I get just to keep my name and address away from anyone who might fish through the trash.
    Best,
    Marty

John got a call after nine last night and he said it was a voice like that but he didn't give the man a chance. John told him not to ever call here at that time of night again. Paula

Accents are always a good tip-off. Most legitimate calls are made during the day and they rarely ask for account numbers or things such as maiden names. Good post !
