BEYONCE: Still Number One!

By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices

The numbers are in.

And as we expected, Beyonce's new album 'B-Day' is on top of the charts.

The light and lively set sold an astounding 541,196 copies in its first week of official release, according to Nielsen Soundscan figures made available this morning.

The hip-hop hodgepodge --with collaborations from Jay-Z, Rodney Jerkins, Swizz Beatz, Rich Harrison, The Neptunes, Sean Garrett and Star Gate--outsold new albums from rock group Audioslave (141,817) and legendary metal band Iron Maiden (55,722).

The success of the album was bolstered by a full-scale media blitz, which included TV appearances on mainstream shows such as 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show,' 'Good Morning America' and 'Fashion Rocks' on CBS.

But there's more where that comes from.

The multiple Grammy Award winning diva have a scheduled appearance on 'The Tyra Banks Show' for Sept. 15.

Although some retail chains offered the album for sale at $9.99 (The Ashanti Price), reviews for the album were mixed.

'The Washington Post' said the opus "feels slapdash and despondent, her exceptional vocal talents barely compensating for the lack of blood, sweat and mascara-stained tears." 'USA Today' gave the album a three-out-of-four star review, calling it "far fiercer than anything on her 2003 solo debut, 'Dangerously in Love.'"

"A standard singer with little detectable range, personality or sense of humor, BeyoncĂ©, like many of her competitors, must rely on a chorus line of expensive producers, writers and knob twiddlers to fashion her wares," critiqued 'LA Daily News' music critic Fred Shuster.

And 'Boston Globe' critic Sarah Rodman boasted that "where the 15-track 'Dangerously in Love' had a few can't - miss hits and an excess of draggy ballads, the 10-track 'B'Day' is tighter than Joan Rivers' s forehead."

Did you hear 'B-Day' yet?  What did you think of it?  Tell us.

All you HATERS need to quit, even if you try not to like Mrs. Jay-Z you have no choice her presence and talents far out weights opinions. God has truly blessed her with exceptional skills. The only thing I have a problem with is her lack of respect for the Jay publicly. But that's her thing. Jay money and accopmlishments are just as great as hers, and his bank roll is a bit longer. Keep up the good work Bee, I'm feeling how Jigga is the man at the door in her new video go Bee.

I think that Beyonce it very overrated. Ithe songs that she writes take no talent. People need to give props to the women that deserve them like Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, Angie Stone, Lela James, theese women and countless others are way more talented. Hell if Aaliyah was still alive Beyonce wouldn't be shit. She said that it took her 2 weeks to record this album well it sounds like it. There's no flow to it and it sounds rushed. She can't write for shit or dance and her voice isn't all that.
She used to be hot but now that she lost all that weight to look like the white mans ide of sexy she looks sick. If the rest of the girls in Destinys Child had her family working 110% for them they'd be bigger stars than Bey.
