LLOYD BANKS: "Inspired by Tupac"

By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices

Today (Sept. 13) marks a decade since the death of rap icon Tupac Shakur.

While some may have cockamamie theories about him being alive and residing in another country, his impact and memory continues to resonate within hip-hop culture.

In an interview with The BV Newswire, platinum-plated G-Unit rapper Lloyd Banks revealed that his first taste of hip-hop came in the form of seeing Shakur live on stage.

"A lot of people asked me if I was going to rap or be an entertainer, and yeah I kind of did," Banks explained. "My first concert was seeing Tupac, rest in peace, in Roy Wilkins Park in Queens and the second concert that I ever went to was the one my mother took me to the night Tupac passed away.  Bone Thugs-N-Harmony was headlining, and Nas was there. A few people were there."

"His legacy is incredible and it's significant with me because that's the first person I've seen with a mike, period. It was Tupac," the Queens-born rapper recollected.  "And he showed up about a half hour late, but he stayed an hour over because he was like 'I don't want to cheat people out of their time. I showed up late due to the limo driver, but I'm going to stay an extra hour.' And that was the last thing that I had as a reference to what kind of dude Tupac was.

"And ever since that day, I wanted to be on stage."

I love that Dude is keeping it real & giving respect to where it is due. I love you Tupac!!!! Rest in peace baby.

The last time I listened to rap/hip hop was when Pac was alive. There have only been a few that have come slightly close but no one has filled the void he left.

                       RIP.
