CHAMILLIONAIRE: "Ridin'" High

By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices

Chamillionaire may have gotten snubbed by ABC, but the platinum-selling rapper got much love from MTV.

As he accepted the award for Best Rap Video at the '2006 Video Music Awards,' the Houston native made mention of the slight.  "I was supposed to do an interview for '20/20' for the song 'Ridin', about racial profiling, and they canceled it, and that ruined my week, you know what I'm saying.  I do want to say, this award just made my year. … The best thing about this award - nobody can cancel this."

His words must've resonated.

According to MTV Radio Networks, ABC  has issued an apology saying that the interview was shelved because "20/20 producers didn’t want to waste Chamillionaire’s time," after finding out the episode was on the cutting room floor.

The sought after lyricist --and former partner-in-rhyme of Paul Wall--  remains undaunted.

According to his publicist Nancy Byron, Cham --as he is known- will not make any further comment on the situation because "it doesn’t make sense to foster any negativity."

While she did confirm the apology was made, she also said that he's moving on.

"You know, I’m at 1.1-million [albums sold] right now, but I plan on keep pushing it," he tells MTV. "I went overseas and I saw I was having a lot of success over there and it’s blowin’ up so I plan to go back and keep touring over there and I’m also working on a new album."
.
Chamillionaire --who doesn't smoke, drink or use profanity in his music-- is currently promoting the newly released third single "Grown and Sexy," from his major label debut opus.

He's also laying the groundwork for his highly anticipated sophomore effort, to be titled 'Ultimate Victory.'

BV Extras:

Chamillionaire got 'Off Topic' with BV's Angela Bronner on the eve of his album release. Check it out here.
