NINA SIMONE: Some "R&R" For The Legend

Something that I've been waiting on --since she passed (April 23, 2003)-- has been this generation's re-interpretation of legendary song stylist Nina Simone's vast repertoire.
Music to my ears, literally, showed up on my desk this week in the form of 'Remixed & Reimagined,' a forthcoming collection including many of Simone’s most definitive works from her RCA Records recording period (1967–1974)-- reinvented by some of contemporary dance and electronic music’s best producers, including Francóis K. (Mick Jagger, Depeche Mode), Tony Humprhies (Janet Jackson, Donna Summer), Mocean Worker, Coldcut (Eric B & Rakim), Nickodemus, Groovefinder, Madison Park & Lenny B., Chris Coco, DJ Logic, Organica, and more.
Alongside the European Top 30 favorite "Ain’t Got No/I Got Life" (a sweltering big beat ‘60s pop re-rub of the self empowerment anthem), the 13-track set also includes reconstructions of "Here Comes the Sun," "Go To Hell," "The Look of Love," "“O-o-oh Child" and a spiritually-charged remix of "Obeah Woman."
'Remixed & Reimagined' arrives in stores on Oct. 31 courtesy of RCA/Legacy Recordings, and according to label publicist Michele Scott, other legendary artists will appear with their own titles in the months to come.
Now a genius idea would be a tribute project with the likes of Cassandra Wilson, Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Heather Headley, Pink, Chaka Khan, Christina Aguilera and Mary J Blige (who sampled her on the latest album) singing some of Nina's legendary music. Even Cee-Lo Green would be good for good measure. He has the heart -- and the soul.

Ms Nina was so much to so many of us, I miss her presence, she had a voice that can never be duplicated. I hope this R&R will do her justice.

My name is maryjane, I just want the world to know that I think Mrs. Nina was one of the best artist I've ever listened to. I just loved her Voice. There's no artist that could compare to her. Finally she's appreciated.

They were: The other woman, Mississippi Goddam, Four Women, & Break down and let it all out.
Nina Simone was always a very grounded, strong, black woman, who had no trouble expressing her feelings and opinions is song. I look forward to hearing this tribute...........ELB1313
