SANAA LATHAN: Finally Getting It

By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices

Screen siren Sanaa Lathan has been redeemed.

After enduring negative scrutiny media about widespread rumors of an alleged affair with Oscar winner Denzel Washington, the 'Brown Sugar' beauty is finally feeling the "essence."

Lathan will grace the November issue of 'Essence' after a much-buzzed about falling out with the best-selling black women's magazine. (Read all about the salacious story that made national headlines last year.)

In the long overdue piece, titled 'Having It My Way,' the bronze beauty --who currently stars in the plastic surgery drama series 'Nip/Tuck' (perfect timing)-- keeps things very much on-the-surface with Essence's West Coast editor Regina R. Robertson, whom I adore (if I must say). Topics touched upon during the girl-chat-type interview (at a Los Angeles based Greek Restaurant), includes Lathan's choice of roles ("The work is more important; the money will come"), being unemployed ("The minute you find yourself without a job, you feel crazy"), and her 10-year plan ("I will have won two Oscars and maybe an Emmy and a Golden Globe, and I’ll do two films a year").

Ummmm, two Oscars?

That's a bit ambitious.

As a Black actress navigating Hollywood, veteran TV producer Stan Lathan's baby girl better get to work!!!

But aim high hottie. Aim high.

The Yale School of Drama alum --who played the lead in the box-office topping interracial romantic comedy 'Something New' earlier this year -- did, however, talk about her preference in men. "I don’t discriminate, but I tend to gravitate toward Black men" she revealed. "Maybe it’s something that they have, like their weight and rhythm, but being with a brother just feels like home to me."

Ooh la la, Sanaa.

The 35-year old New York City native -- who will star in the upcoming television adaptation of the Broadway revival of  'A Raisin In The Sun' next year-- did open a little about her current day love life: "I’ve met somebody recently who I really like, but we’re not exclusive. I’m making an effort to go out more, so, who knows, maybe I’ll meet someone else tomorrow."

And not one mention of Denzel.

What a great way to smooth things over 'Essence.'

i love her in nip tuck she is an aspiring young very talented actress, i hate her sloppy ass kissing in films which seemed to have improved on the current show, and stop bringing up omar epps and how you passed that you must not be cause they be asking about other stuff and you say people may think im still pining over my relationship with omar,no one said u were, u did!! like monique keep bringing up her weight! it must not be ok you went and got it sucked off or lost it, its a good thing be sure and proud of the decisions you make its your life and young lady you are doing very well keep it up you added spice to the series nip tuck,,loving it loving u with wishing all further success denzel aint cute just distinguished well spoken but over rated why they make so much of a fuss about him and he a man so it is possible he would do such a thing and since he is every women fantasy, not mine by long shot!! it is possible for her to take that opportunity but he human so is she, stop pedalstalin these starts they the same as us no better

Two Oscars? that is quite ambitious for someone who has never even been nomianted by the academy. she needs to realize that yes, setting goals are important, but set realistic ones because there are people who have been acting for years and have never been nominated or has only won one oscar (ie. robert de niro and denzel washington). However, she is certainly capable to obtain this goal.

by the way, i absolutely love her in nip/tuck, hopefully she'll be the one to give james what she deserves.
