SMOKEY ROBINSON: Bringing Soul To 'The World'

By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices

Motown music legend Smokey Robinson is still going strong.

Detroit's native crooner will star in a two-episode arc of NBC's long running soap opera 'Days of Our Lives' on Nov. 14 and 15.

According to a network spokesperson, the 66 year old R&B pioneer will perform "I Love Your Face" from his jazzy new covers album 'Timeless Love.'

The storyline he's involved in revolves around lead character Marlena Black (played by Deidre Hall) being  lost in the snowy wilderness and is startled by a mysterious man carrying an ax!  She learns it's none other than Smokey Robinson who just so happens to be vacationing at a secluded cabin nearby.  He rescues her from the cold and brings her back to his place to recover in front of a warm fire and calls the authorities.

Yeah, let's call the authorities!!!

Good old Smokey is playing a Black Knight In Shining Armor.

HA!

Later, a character John tracks Marlena down at the cabin and Mister Robinson  gives an impromptu performance for the reunited couple singing "I Love Your Face."

I don't watch that show, but this is worthy of note.

Love to see the old-timers still kicking.

Smokey  Robinson music has been in my life every since I first saw him with the group. He was with his first wife Claudette .  The" Miracles" sang at the Howard Theatre in Wash.D.C. in the 50's. That was really a treat the group was with Etta
James, Chantel's and others. I recalled that event like it was yesterday. I wanted
to see that show and made sure I did my chores so I would be able to attend that
show with my friends. Yes, Smokey and I go back along way back . He was always
in my house with his music and I have all of his music today too.
I even followed his life with his second wife now and I am very happy for him alto
they have been married for quite some time .  He thought he would never marry again. That just goes to show you never say never.
All of his music is baby making music altho Ronald Isley said his music is baby making but he don't have nothing on Smokey not one bit.   Love Smokey and he still sound and look good even to this day 10-31-06.

I am a "Smokey Robinson" fan from way back in the days when he was the led singer of the Mircales.   Even today I still play one of their greatest songs "Bad Girl".  Now that song goes back to about 1959....  Wow!  That's a long time ago.  I first heard it being played my Aunt back in the 60's.

I have loved me some "Smokey" since then......
