LUTHER VANDROSS: Resting In Peace?

By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices

Mary Ida Vandross, the mother of  Luther Vandross, has grand plans to remove the late R&B icon's corpse from its grave and move it closer to his siblings -- who she says were "all inseparable' when they were alive.

In an interview with 'JET' magazine, Mrs. Vandross said, "when you saw one, you always saw the other. They were all very so close to each other."

Within the next month, she hopes to exhume the remains of the "House Is Not A Home' singer and move it closer to his late brother, sisters and nephew at the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ -- where they all rest in peace.

But are they resting in peace?

Many believe it's sacrilegious to shift graves.

Whatever the case, the "elder woman" is standing forthright with her conviction, it seems. "It's something that I want and I believe this is the right to do," she said, adding, "It's a fitting tribute to him."

Her additional plans also include unearthing the body of her husband, Luther, Sr., in Marion, SC and move it to the site where the singer's body currently exists. "If he were here, I could hear my husband say, 'Good, let the kids be there, I'll be here and we'll visit each other.'"

The magazine reports that the currently occupied grave is a "double grave" and Mrs. Vandross is preparing to rest there next to her husband when she dies -- "45 years from now."

I was in New Jersey last month the 16th Of Nov. to be exact and went to George Washington Memorial Park and visited Luther's grave. He has allready been moved and is buried in a mausoleum and his father is in the grave. May Mary Ida take comfort in knowing her family is now together here, but what a reunion it will be someday for all of her family. GOD BLESS!

    Hi Mrs.Vandross
I Always Known that a Bronken Home Isn't A  Happy One, and I Say this Because With Ur Children Layed Here and Ur Husband Is Laid There, And Who Knows Where They Would Lay U When Its Ur Time, Now I Call that A Broken Home...So Now that U Have the Chance to Bringing Ur Family Back Together, Thats Putting Ur Home In Order and Family Back Together God Has Blessed U to Do that I Wouldn't Miss that Chance For Nothing in the World, Because Everyone Don't Have that Chance, Or is Blessed to Do that So Bring Ur Husband, and Ur Son Home and Join Them With Their Other Family, and U Thats How Ur Blessing Starts and God Will Be at that Pearly Gate Waiting With His Arms Opend Wide and His Blessing to the Heighest Because U Carried and Birth Those Children, and Lived Ur Life and Married that Man, And Gave Him Those Chldren So Bring Them Home and Together. Because if thats Ur Wish for U and Them to be Together Then Thats Exactly What U Should Do. My Chidren and I Loved Luther Just as Much as Anyone Else, And We Always Will His Music is a Blessing to Us All. Love from Within Our Heart...
