BRIAN MCKNIGHT: 'Ten's' Across The Board
By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices
Multi-platinum selling R&B crooner Brian McKnight will release his new album, titled '10,' on Dec. 5 via Warner Bros. Records.
The new album, ranging from his signature soul ballads to smooth, sleek R&B, signifies a new beginning for the Buffalo, New York native composer and songwriter; it's the first project of his recently signed deal with the legendary record company.
"Warner Bros. has a long standing tradition of success and integrity with their artists," the tall, dark and debonair balladeer said. "I am honored to be a part of this amazing organization and I am looking forward to a long and great relationship."
'Ten' also marks the release of his tenth album, overall.
Recorded in Los Angeles over the past year and a half, 'Ten' is McKnight's tenth album overall and features collaborations with Jill Scott, Brian Michael Cox, Brandon Barnes, and hit-making songwriters Tim & Bob.
Country stars Rascal Flatts are featured on the patriotic song "Red, White and Blue."
"[It's] a real down-home kind of story, and one that red-blooded Americans will identify with," McKnight explained.
"Used To Be My Girl," is the opus' first single, that went to radio a few weeks ago.
About the new music, he said, "[it's] the same old Brian, just better. I finally feel like I’m in a place where I’m appreciated."
A true Gemini, McKnight still is getting his digs in from a bad split with Motown Records -- which coincidentally, he feels, didn't do a great job promoting his last album 'Gemini' (his best in years.) Well, for one: it may not have been a good idea to release and album titled 'Gemini' in the winter.
"[The new deal] made me very comfortable and eager to work," he added. "On this record, from beginning to end, youcan tell that there weren’t a lot of things on my mind other than the music."
Let's hope alls well is that ends well with The WB.
The only other R&B stars of note on the roster are the thuggish ruggish crooner Jaheim, and soul diva on the rise Leela James (who despite becoming a media darling has failed to ignite a commercial spark).
"Brian is a triple threat as a singer, songwriter, and producer," offered Warner Bros. Records CEO Tom Whalley. "His ability to reach audiences of all ages and musical tastes is a testament to his talent and versatility. We’re delighted that he is joining the Warner Bros. family."
McKnight, who has sold more than 16 million records worldwide since his 1992 platinum-plated self-titled debut, has collaborated with major pop superstars Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, Willie Nelson, Nelly, Vanessa Williams, and Kenny G.

My friend was just telling me how she met you along time ago in Florida and she told me that she had no clue as to who she was dancing with untill you took off your shades and let her see your face. She told me that she called you once after that and then lost contact with you. I tell you one thing that would never be me baby, I'd still be calling you.
