ANDY DICK/DAMON WAYANS: Oh "N-Word" Please!

By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices

Those Hollywood types sure seem desperate for publicity.

Washed up television comedic personality Andy Dick decided to join in on "The Michael Richards Racist Rant Controversy" last weekend when he jumped onstage during another comic's routine at the Improv on Saturday night and used the "N-WORD" in an apparent attempt to joke about Richards.

NOT FUNNY!!!

And just like magic, the 40-year old, often-rehabilitated former star of the 1990s sitcom 'NewsRadio' issued a statement via his publicist.

"I chose to make a joke about a subject that is not funny," the 'Los Angeles Times' newspaper reported the statement saying. "In an attempt to make light of a serious subject, I have offended a lot of people, and I am sorry for my insensitivity. I wish to apologize to Ian, to the club and its patrons and to anyone who was hurt or offended by my remark." (More of the madness here.)

Oh okay.

Next you're going to pee on my leg and tell me it's raining, right?

And if that wasn't enough, TMZ.com broke the news of Damon Wayans being banned from The Laugh Factory for using the same word, repeatedly, that caused a media furor when the former 'Seinfeld' star used when responding to hecklers during his ill-fated set on Nov. 17.

"Give yourselves a big round of applause for coming down and supporting 'N-WORD Night," the "My Wife & Kids" star began his act.

Whoa!!!

Now I don't profess to being an uppity negro -- but come on people.

There are black men still getting shot 50 times by white cops (allegedly for being investigated for drugs [I'm still wondering how does that justify someone being shot dead in the hail of bullets in one of the most so-called progressive metropolitan cities in the world -- in 2006]).

Talk about some real "N-WORD" business!

black people, it is about high time we faced reality.  the word nigger and negro are too closely related to not mean black person.  i know that the dictionary says nigger is an ignorant person, but i believe when the dictionary's version was written, the publishers were attempting to be politically correct and not associate the word nigger with black person at all.  slave owners introduced nigger as a variation of negro.  webster's dictionary attempted to change the definition of the word simply because it wanted too.  i am nigger, i am negro, i am black, i am african descent.  i am every factual entity that is associated with being a man of color.  but what i am not, is every stereotype being associated with a man of color.  the word nigger has too much power.  it is time the we accept the word and stop attempting to change the definition, like so many in the hip-hop community claim.  the only thing wrong with being a nigger is not loving the fact.  who cares if white people trying to use it as a word of degration.  if you take away the offense of the word, you neutralize the harm white people attempt to inflict.  for example, is faggot any different from gay? no, but people tend to get more upset if they were called faggot because the intention is to degrade someone when you call them faggot instead of gay.  but if you equate both words, faggot is no more offensive with gay.  this is the way i few nigger, nigga, and negro.  when i decided to accept the term nigger, i was no longer offended by the attempts of white people to degrade me.  in fact, i always laugh.  even in this new millenium i am called nigger in college when i piss off certain white people.  but it doesn't affect me negatively.  just think of all the trouble we save ourselves if we take away the power of one word.

We all would do well to watch what we say. It does not matter our ethnic origins or nationalities.  We will either bless with our tongue or curse with our tongue.  Blessing and cursing should not come from the same mouth. It defiles the whole body. It does not matter what "contemporary society" has accepted.  Cursing is cursing.  I quote "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit."  Proverbs 18:21 (Holy Bible, NKJV)  If you find nothing wrong with cursing then you will use the "N-word" and many other "curse words." And the "N-word" is still used to curse even by African Americans, blacks, Negroes and others. It is still used for cursing by the hip hop generation whether they realize it or not.  If you choose to curse, whether it is the "N-word" or other curse words; and you approve of those who curse, then you are welcome to eat the fruit of a "cursed tongue."  Watch what you say, there is life and death in the power of the tongue (This is also, in the Holy Bible. Read it daily for guidance on right living and right speech)    Overflow57

Well im22sxy4uisback I guess not really understanding my comment can be relegated to ignorance also. Our ancestors didnt suffer because of the word,it was people. And if you allow people to define you, who's the blame? you or the people.Well the word is used as a term of endearment in our community, hip hop artists has really upset the average racist by taking their verbal dagger and turning it into popular black vernacular. They hate to see rap artists make millions on a word they used to define us.But if our ancestors might say today...we have the best golfer in the world..the best talk show host in the world..the best singer in the world ...two not one black astronauts,a black   man and black woman circling the earth in the space shuttle right now...black people in charge of the different powerful positions in the House and a black senator who showed up in new hampshire last sunday where 150 reporters and 1500 hundred people showed up and the white senator the crowd was so small you could hear a pin drop....both potential presidential candidate, but I just learned the white candidate just dropped out...best football player in the world...best baseball player in the world.. best boxer in the world...best basketball player in the world....best long and short distant runner in the world....the number one movie right now,and it about being homeless, imagine if he allowed a word to define him.If you allow some one to hurt you with a word his ignorance is only over-shadowed by yours.

you know we as african-american people, has got to come together, as an race.Quit degrading one another in public.I was on an public bus, there was some school age kid's, white, black, latino. laughing & playing with each other.Who did i heard call each other name's the n.... word.black kid's continually, saying the n-word. You know teaching start's at home.Parent's teach your children to respect themselves & other's. Respect start's at home. And all us black people need to watch what we call each other. I f we can't control N-word,How can we get other's to stop saying it.all so the man who played on Seinfeld, who use the n-word.If you would trace his root's, you probably will found some black there. Because he has some thick feature's nose, lips, forhead. & nappy, kinky hair.Maybe that's what he found out & so very upset about. have an nice day!!!

In case you were wondering, I have checked my lineage and I do know where my ancestors came/come from. I am of Spanish (Castillion) and African (near Somalia) descent....even though my father and his father (and so on) were born in America.
