USHER: In The Spirit

By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices

It's no telling whether or not Usher will portray Godfather of Soul James Brown in an ambitious film projects being planned, but the multi-platinum selling crooner is still building buzz in Tinseltown.

The "My Way" singer will receive the 2007 Spirit Award from the Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP during its 17th Annual NAACP Theatre Awards on Feb. 19.

According to publicist Lisa Sorenson, Usher (legally known as Usher Raymond) is being honored for his recent performance in 'Chicago' on Broadway. (Read how Usher razzled dazzled sold out crowds on The Great White Way.)

The Spirit Award recognizes those individuals who bring new energy to the theater industry.

Previous recipients of the prestigious honor include Fayard Nicholas, Phylicia Rashad, Art Evans, Danny Glover, and Heavy D, among others.

Produced by the Beverly Hills / Hollywood arm of NAACP (known as the founding branch of the NAACP Image Awards), the awards will be held at the Directors Guild of America Theatre on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles at 7 p.m.

Television actors Chandra Wilson (of 'Grey's Anatomy') and Rockmond Dunbar (of 'Prison Break') will host what promises to be a star-studded gala produced in an effort to acknowledge the many contributions of African Americans in theater.

usher is the most talented male artist on the circuit.  i enjoy everything that he does.  i could careless about his sexual preferences.  i just want him to keep doing the dang thang! sing, baby! dance, baby! perform your craft!  no one can hold a candle to his showmanship right now.  our last superstar was michael jackson and its time for someone new to carry the torch!

and my last comment is does he (usher) put his shoes under your bed at night?  does usher turn the key to your door?  is usher waiting for you when you get home from work?  when is the last time usher called you?  lol heck did he ask you to bring milk or bread home?  we all need to stop thinking that we are married or celebrities really know about us.  they have lives to live.  we need to respect them and let them live them.

    enuf said.

I think all of hollywood have dark secrets, if he is gay what does that have to do with his ability to perform, (sing, dance, Act) .   Keep up the good work brother man. Do you, He is not the first nor will he be the last gay celebrity...
