DREAMGIRLS 2006: Let The Critical Praise Begin

By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices

As expected, the marketing blitz surrounding Bill Condon's film adaptation of the legendary Broadway musical 'Dreamgirls,' is paying off.

The movie --starring Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles, Eddie Murphy and introducing Jennifer Hudson-- earned and astounding seven nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA).  'The Departed,' 'Babel' and 'Little Miss Sunshine' garnered seven nods also.

Also picking up BFCA nods were 'The Last King of Scotland’s' Forrest Whitaker and 'The Pursuit of Happyness' lead Will Smith, both for best actor.

The awards will be doled out during the organization's the 12th annual Critics Choice Awards on Jan. 12 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.

Other awards 'Dreamgirls' has garnered include: Hudson winning the awards for Breakthrough Performer and Best Supporting Actress, respectively, from The New York Film Critics Online (NYFCO).  The film also made The American Film's list of top film and television programs of 2006.

This is the best movie i have seen in a long time. When the movie ended, not one person stood up until the credits were entirely over. All of the actors did a phenominal job. It saddens me to think that there is negative feedback to this movie, even though there isn't much of it. Seeing a movie this wonderful reminds a person that there are still fantastic movies being  made.

Well I guess we can relate the characters to the reality of it.  Hollywood like the music industry is going to advertise what sales.  Deena (Beyonce) sales.  Effie (Jennifer) though she did alot of singing in the film, not acting, and have a great voice she don't sale.  She didn't in American Idol.  Now I loved the film but I mean people act like Beyonce deserve no credit.  Plus this is Jennifer's first film they don't usually plaster a person name across a poster on their first film in hollywood anyway.

I loved the movie and thought that everyone was great, but I just have to admit that Jennifer Hudson was the greatest.  She can sing and also is an excellent actress.  The young lady almost  made me jump up and scream.  She is great!

Anika is critically acclaimed in one of the toughest fields of entertainment- Broadway. You get Tony awards (and I believe she has other accomplishments) from natural singing and acting talent, not studio singing. Jennifer Hudson work on the Spirit of Chicago and sang in church on the lowend southside of Chicago(lets give it up for the southside, wild wild hunnerds in the house 10-trey) and we all know you ain't gonna have a solo if you can't blow! To sum it up we all know who has real talent and not manufactured in the studio and by a overdemanding father.
