WOMEN AND CHILDREN FIRST

  • 33.2 million people now live with HIV or AIDS.
  • In 2007, approximately 2.5 million people were infected with HIV.
  • Every day, over 6800 people become infected with HIV - almost five people per minute.
  • 5700 people die from AIDS every day.
  • One child dies every minute.
  • 15 million children around the world have been orphaned by AIDS, losing one or both parents to the disease.
  • Every fifteen seconds, another person age 15-24 becomes infected with HIV/AIDS.

I am a firm believer that women and children are the most exploited people in the world. They are the most neglected and powerless as well.

When it comes to a global disease such as Aids it is the women and children of the world who suffer the most. When I read about  some of the things that take place around the world where women and children are raped, murdered and ostracized in the name of whatever some man has made up in his mind to be his right to do, it sickens me.

Even in this day and age a female in a country like India, Africa, or China ect. is just about worthless and can be left to die just for being a girl. Add to that a disease such as Aids and the likely hood of a women or child's survival rate drops tremendously.

There are groups out there that are trying their best to enlighten, educate and support women and children and change mind sets of men who think it  is ok to disrespect, degrade and discard the rights of women and children.

One such group is YOUTH AIDS  With Ambassador Ashley Judd and a team of workers who travel the world sharing knowledge and support to people who have little to nothing including their health. Check out the website to learn more about this group and what you can do to enrich the lives of people who fight everyday just to breath in and out let alone live.

Thanks for the info on Youth Aids, I was not familiar with this group. I share your concern about the plight of women and children in so many countries around the world. I will definitely check out this website.--Sheria
