Ford Interceptor Launches
This is one of the coolest looking cars at the show. Based on a stretched Mustang platform this is a classic four door muscle car.
Ellen here:
Just got back from the Ford launch, which was in a HUGE auditorium and after experiencing this unique launch, where they paraded at least 1/2 dozen cars and trucks, now I understand why. Bill Ford kicked off the show with another famous Bill...Bill Gates from Microsoft joined him via Satellite from the Computer Electronic Show in Vegas. They did a pretty ineffective "tease" for the Ford Sync, which seems to me like a super-cool concept, but more on that later.
The first car to debut was the Ford Interceptor concept car. They called it "modern American muscle." I call it a Gangsta car. They've transported the front of the F250 Superchief onto the front of this car. It's got a V8 engine that's designed to run on E85 Ethanol - now that I like.
Next up was the Airstream Concept - a futuristic Minivan/Crossover like car with influences from "2001: Space Odyssey." It's got pod-shaped captain's chairs and comes complete with a lava lamp. It's designed to run on hydrogen fuel cells and get 41 MPG. Nice!
Then they talked about the Ford Focus. Most impressive thing here was that the Focus went on a diet and lost 60 lbs for better fuel economy, while still getting a makeover with new safety and other features.
Now back to Ford Sync. This joint venture technology with Microsoft is going to debut in the younger-targeted Focus in Fall 2007 and will be available exclusively in 12 Ford cars through 2008. Imagine being able to use only your voice to activate your cell phone and MP3 player for safe driving. Plus, it does text to speech so you'll be able to receive and send text messages hands-free. Cool!
Moving on to Lincoln with the reveal of the much-anticipated MKR behind floating white flags. It's low and sleek, inspired by Lincolns-past. It's got a V6 twin force engine that can run on E85, and Chrysler said would be seen in future cars.

mmmmm, I don't like the looks. This car has an old look like the Chrysler 300 only with a front grill of the Ford Fusion. Why can't Ford come up with something better. Come on, a four door Mustang, thats an insult to the Mustang.

Very cool. It obviously has nothing to do with the mustang, but is an obvious Crown Vic or 500 replacement. It's got the chunky solidity of the Chrysler 300, but without the shoddy Chrysler reliability. Now that Bill Ford has finally let go of the reins, Ford is going back to the original concept that inspired the handsome Fusion. I like it all except the headlight treatment.

Interceptor. Nice idea, but too late for Ford. They need to focus on the "here and now." Put a car in the showroom people want to buy. Ford is in so much trouble that concept cars are a waste of resources. Show me something I can buy today that is as good as the Altima! The entire design team and Ford senior management should be replaced, otherwise in a few years the board meetings will be in Stuttgart or Tokyo.
