Ford Product Introductions
Fords, Fords, Fords…nuthin' but Fords.
We attended Ford’s media event this morning and were greeted, along with 600 others, by Bill Ford. He spoke of their successes abroad and reviewed some of the progress Ford has made this past year. Luckily, Bill knows when to pass the baton, so he soon turned the program over to CEO Alan Mulally, who arrived via the 2009 Ford Flex. Alan, too, spoke of the changes he has both wrought and beheld in his first year at the new Ford.
On with the products! We began with a short campy video showing some flannel clad guys sneaking into a restricted are of the Rouge River assembly plant and using a computer interface to build their dream F-150. The video ended with the F-150 reaching “assembly complete” when we were suddenly under attack from a wall of sparks and a loud explosion. As if just constructed as a result of the flannel boys, in drives a “newly minted” 2009 Ford F-150 They are flanked by several other F-150s of various trim levels, driven by additional pitchmen Justin McBride (professional bull rider), Rick Crawford (NASCAR truck driver), Linsey Weenk (Monster Jam) and Matt O’Leary (F-150 Chief Engineer). Suffice to say that each of the men was very excited about the new features and overall excellence of the newest F-150. piloted by Ford President Mark Fields with fellow pitchman Toby Keith riding shotgun.
Following the F-150 departure, a passel of Mustangs raced in, around and back out. The glass panel roof looked good from the stands so I bet it looks great from the driver seat.
Next up was the Ford Explorer America Concept. I like the clean, sharp looking design direction Ford is taking with the SUV segment. This new styling and functionality, coupled with expected fuel efficiency improvements could easily put the Explorer back on top of the SUV sales charts.

Ford then dropped the Verve concept (See Photo Gallery) in from the ceiling. Ford has a lot of verve showing us such a great looking small after the recentlaunch of the dowdy Focus. Build it already!

All in all, Ford showed us that they can conceive and build stylish, efficient, innovative products. I am not sure where Ford was hiding all the excellence these past years but I was happy to see it unleashed this morning.
