Subject: Where Do We Go From Here?
Time: 4:46:50 AM EDT
Author: ccnccc
Where do we go from here? That is a very good question, one which few have the answer too, therefore, I will not belabor the subject.
To begin with, I would like to share a poem, that the Secretary of a former Special Forces Association Chapter (59) which I was a member of, sent to me. It is penned by one of the Chapter Members.
|
The Old Men
The old men struggled to their feet
The anthem at the end of its first stanza
Leaning on each other as in years gone by
Caps off, held gently over their hearts
Hair thin and wispy, moving with the breeze
Bodies erect, they stand in silent reverence
Their caps bear names from long ago
Places where history was made
Normandie, Bastogne, Corregidor, Okinawa
They remember another time, another place
They gave their blood, their sweat, and their youth
Friends gave the last full measure
Asking not for praise, or thanks
Only that you honor their friends,
Remember why, and never forget |
by Harmon Snipes
I do not know Harmon, but the ode sure does ring a big bell. One which might be the beginning of Where do we go from here? I am guilty of being one of these Old Men, however, my span of service spreads from Korea to Vietnam, along with another unknown country, adjacent to Vietnam.
Let us start by remembering what the men of all the wars this country has participated in fought and died for. Freedom of religion, choice, press, and voicing one's opinion. Yes, Opinion, out in the open, without fear of reprisal from any form of government. We all share that freedom, and sometimes it gets one in "hot water" just by the tone of voice, enunciation of certain words, or gestures.
If we go forward to the situation in the world, we could take a look at the situation in England, which is very bad. Personally, I can think of far too many ways that the Terrorist are screwing up. their hatred for those of us with the above listed freedoms, that their military planning really stinks, to put it bluntly.............BUT, where do we go from here? We need to place security devices, sensors, and detectors at the entrance of all Airports, Railroad and Bus Terminals. Screwy, maybe, but there is not one point of inspection prior to checking the baggage and finally, going through the security checkpoint to get on the aircraft. Why, one ask, for the simple reason, if you want to destroy the means of transportation, you do not take out the aircraft, already in the air. Take out the means of transportation, no terminal to dispatch the aircraft, railway depot, bus terminal, no transportation. These idiots are all self destructive, so what is to prevent hundreds, or even thousands of them to walk into one major airport, and destroy it from within, killing thousands of travelers, disrupting the entire means of communications/transportation?
This goes far back to my old days, when I was a young man. If you want to defeat the enemy, think like he does. I used the same thought in my days as a Locksmith/Security Consultant...If you want to defeat the thief, think like he does.................It goes on and on.............so, where do we go from here?

Subject: THOUGHTS, MORE OF THEM...........
Time: 11:43:58 PM EDT
Author: ccnccc
Mood: Worried
Music: NEWS ON TV
While enjoying a succulent dinner at Red Lobster, with my wife, this evening, I found my mind wandering. It was as if I was being drawn into the depths of illegal immigration and all the companies of American Birth, who have folded up operations in the United States, where they began, and moved south of the border, where labor is far less compelling as it is north of the border.
There is a fault which goes deep into the "Free Enterprise" vs. The Continental United States of America. For eons, we, the people of this country purchased "Made in the USA" products. Fact, the manufacturers of the USA, exported more goods, worldwide, then was imported. We, was the exporters of the majority of all product in the world.
Our priorities diminished shortly following World War II, then later following the Korean War, it became more prevalent, that, the majority of product was entering the USA, then was being produced in country. We became dependent upon other countries, who were producing far inferior goods, rather then paying decent wages to our own labor force, and producing solid products ourselves.
Where are we today? We are at a stage where Mexico is producing much that this country is dependent on. Why? Cheap labor, of course. Our American employees of these companies, are overwhelmed with exorbitant cost, for the "privilege" of entering the state of Mexico. Privilege Hell, it is one of the oldest forms of extortion, by a recognized foreign government.
If memory serves me correctly, Slick Willie was the instigator of moving all the factory productions to our friendly neighbors to the south. Then, much to my chagrin, "W" pretty much handed these people carte blanch,in their search for inferior product at the lowest cost, to the manufacturers. Personally speaking, I feel these actions are tantamount to treason.
Granted, no one will ever stand trial, deported, or slapped on the wrist. However, there is something that can be done, and that is: "Do not purchase anything made in Mexico." This could also be extended to any country South of the Border, who manufactures products sold in the United States.
Hell, I can remember, as a pre-teen, when anything made in Japan was considered junk, and no one would buy it. It was pretty much the same for "stuff" made in "Germany." Now, both countries, who were our enemies, attempting to kill or capture all of us, are major super powers, and in my personal opinion, manufacture better automotive products, then our original automobile builders to.
One might ask themselves why? Why, indeed! Very simple, both the German and Japanese auto manufactures, make their own product, piece by piece, and with quality control. This my friends is the reason, people will pay more for a better quality product. This country has the capability of producing anything from fuel to jets, from beets to peas, and so on and so on. We did it long, long ago, and without help from anyone else.
I can remember an old Model A with rumble seat, that my Dad had, and an old 1936 Ford V-8-60, that I had. These vehicles were cream of the crop. With time, and experimentation, comes advancement in all that is made. With advancement, new products are created, so to speak, and the more difficult it may be to manufacture the parts for these elements. Such as: I was the Senior Radio Operator on ODA-16 in both the 77th/7th and 10th Groups. As such, I had the "privilege" of carrying the heaviest Ruck on the team. I might add, that, I was also the smallest member of the team, back in those days, at 64" and 139 pounds. Following White Star, I was 67" and 165. Yea, I know, everyone else rebounded in the reverse order. We all ate and drank the same stuff, so go figure. Eventually, I got down to 148, and stayed there for several years. I still carried the heaviest Ruck, until I became the Team Daddy.
Back to the subject; now we have advancement, and the radio operators carry the lightest Ruck. Why, because, now these modern wonders carry palm tops and lap tops, working off satellite communications, with batteries. Ain't life grand? I wonder where these palm and lap tops are made, not likely in this country, I would venture a guess. Is computer equipment made in Mexico? Not sure, as I don't really know.
If you have stayed with me this far, thanks, I just wanted to share some idle thoughts floating through the mush between the ears. I realize that I am not as eloquent or as fluid in prose as Nick Brokenhorse, but, I'd rather tell it like it is without flowers......................................Ringo

Hey, it's been a while, but thought I'd add to the previous one on the dissension in the ranks of the SFA.
It appears that we have a cast of characters who are running for the offices of the Presidency and Vice President. A total of five for the top slot and four for the VP slot. Of these we have a pair, running as a team, and for what it is worth, I think they will be the next to take the helm of the Association. The other positions are uncontested, and the only one in question would be the Secretary's slot. Where it is set by the Association By Laws, as directed by Robert Rules of Order, no elected member of the Association, may hold a "paid" position on the BOD.
The Secretary, presently is holding the position os Association Administrator, which is in direct contrast to the By Laws. If the Secretary were to resign this position, and maintain the position of Administrator, the Association would have an Administrator capable of handling that particular job.
Hopefully, with some new blood at the reins we will have an association as it was meant to be......................Ringo Sends

There has been a lot of chatter, concerning the management of the SFA. As in the procedures, the distribution of literature and the likes. Personally, I have endured very few problems, over the years, but then again, I am only one person.
There are some who will piss and moan no matter what is done to improve any project or organization. Which, I suppose leans towards an old saying: "You can please some of the people, all of the time. All of the people, some of the time. However, you cannot please ALL of the people, all of the time!" With this thought in mind, I am open to anything which some of you out there, who receive this, has in mind. Not that I am running for any office, but, because, I am interested in the thoughs of the membership. Another analogy: "If it works, don't fix it. If it is broke, please let me know what your thoughts are on fixing the problem."..........or................"Don't tell me it doesn't work, without telling me what can be done to make it work.".........................Jim/Ringo

Subject: VOICE OF DEMOCRACY
Time: 3:42:42 PM EST
Author: ccnccc
Mood: Quiet
Music: AS THE WORLD TURNS
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the letter of Raymond Peterson from VFW District 9, Post 6133, in Owensville, MO. Raymond read his essay to the VFW Members, during our District Meeting at Post 2657, Fulton, MO. I was so impressed, that I asked for a copy, if he had no problem with his entry appearing on the Internet, in my Journal. Permission was granted and a copy of the essay follows.
VOICE OF DEMOCRACY.......
Freedom. The word that trickles down the path of our nations history. The proclamation that has rung throughout Americans ears for centuries.
What does it mean? Independence from tyranny? The ability to resist oppressors? Or could freedom simply be the decision of which burden to bear?
On July 4th of 1776, the load of truth, dignity, and honor was willingly placed on men who were tired of a corrupt leader. Our forefathers and our veterans carried the weight of freedom on their backs, and paid for it with their lives.
We must ask ourselves if we really have the same freedom that generations before us fought and died for. Past generations of people weren't afraid to offend people, Past generations didn't try to mask what they believed. Speaking your mind was something that was allowed without repercussion. But that got lost along the way.
James Madison once said, "I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachment of those in power then by violent and sudden usurpation." Have we simply let true freedom slip from our fingers? I believe we have. In early 1960's, the biggest problem in school was a fight in the hall every once in a while. Now school shooting are on everyone's mind. In the early 50's a family was sacred. A mother raised her children, a father provided for them, and every night they would all sit over a meal and discuss problems and issues. I can't remember the last time I sat down at a dinner table. Where have we gone?
America has become a nation that rejects and accepts every idea that is put in front of them. Religion is a wonderful, moral institution, as long as no one else knows what religion you are. Dignity and honor are taught in schools, but not practiced by our nation's leaders. Homosexuals hold to a theory that their problem is a psychological disease, yet our citizens almost encourage it.
Our so-called freedom has gotten out of hand. The cliche that all is well as long as no one gets hurt is too often used. Theodore Roosevelt wrote, "Order without liberty and liberty without order are equally destructive." Saddam Hussein had liberty without order, Hitler tried to create order without liberty. America stood up to them. But why will we not stand up to those in power who are manipulating the very freedom in which men have painted fields red for time and time again. The famous quote by John F. Kennedy says, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." So for my country, I rise against the people who use political correctness as a shield to distort freedom from what it once was. Because, as Daniel Webster said, "The contest for ages has been to rescue liberty from the grasp of executive power." My freedom is demonstrated by encoring my leaders use of honesty and valor instead of following them blindly. My freedom is demonstrated by risking my security and my comfort so that others may have it. My freedom is demonstrated by trying to restore the nation back to what it was before all the political correctness took over. A powerful nation that stood behind justice. Although I am not fighting tyranny and terrorism with a rifle in my hand, the hope in my heart and the pride in my country is still the same.
Freedom has it's life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so must be daily earned and refreshed - else like a flower cut from it's life-giving roots, it will wither and die. "Dwight D. Eisenhower had it right in that quote. "Our freedom must be earned daily. Sacrifices must be given for the cause of freedom."
Throughout history men and women have died for it. Many have been persecuted for it. As Thomas Campbell wrote, "A Patriots blood is the seed of freedom's tree." Veterans, your pain, you suffering, your sweat, and your blood was not given fruitlessly. Our freedom is demonstrated by keeping freedom's tree alive. Thank You.
If, this doesn't tell it like it is, nothing will....................Ringo

The VFW took over primary sponsorship of the program in 1961 and at that time became the sole program sponsor. Each year the program focuses on an annual patriotic theme. In 1964 The Ladies Auxiliary joined the VFW. We can all be very proud of what has been accomplished by their cooperative efforts to benefit America’s youth.

Subject: THIS PASTOR HAS GUTS
Time: 4:13:10 AM EST
Author: ccnccc
Mood: Quiet
Music: CRICKETS
For what it is worth, I think this is an outstanding sermon, and well worth the time to read it...............................Jim
This Pastor has guts!!
Thought you might enjoy this interesting prayer given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people.
When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:
"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good, ' but that is exactly what we have done.
We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem.
We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of _expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free.
Amen!"
The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa and Korea.
Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, "The Rest of the Story," and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired. With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called "one nation under God."
If possible, please pass this prayer on to your friends.
"If you don't stand for something, you will fall for everything."
Think about this: If you forward this prayer to everyone on your e-mail list, in less than 30 days it would be heard by the world. How many people in your address book will not receive this prayer.....do you have the guts to pass it on?
NO PROBLEM! I just did..... : )
Thank you and have a Blessed Day!

Gulf Coast Rebuilding MS Gulf Coast : We have a plan New Orleans : We gots us a plan, too
MS Gulf Coast : We have trucks waiting on higher ground to move food, etc. New Orleans : We gots our trucks parked, too. Just in 6 feets of water.
MS Gulf Coast . Police will be back on patrol as soon as we can move around. New Orleans : Cops loot Wal-Mart.
MS Gulf Coast : Home owners begin clearing debris by themselves. New Orleans : Who's gonna clean up this mess?
MS Gulf Coast : It'll cost me some savings to rebuild, but . . . New Orleans : Where's the damn government with the debit cards?
MS Gulf Coast: We are partners with FEMA, but it starts here first. New Orleans : Damn FEMA, why wasn't they ready?
MS Gulf Coast : It was worse than I believed. I should have evacuated. New Orleans : They didn't send nobody to gets me.
MS Gulf Coast : Leaders: we have work to do, let's get started. New Orleans : Leaders: let's go to Las Vegas and party.
MS Gulf Coast : We made a few mistakes, but we learned. New Orleans : It was ______ (fill in the blank) who was at fault.
And you wonder why the MS Gulf Coast isn't getting the news coverage New Orleans got? The media doesn't want to see a state with it's act together or watch people work to rebuild. Whining, complaining and infighting. That's news, Baby! Now do you believe and trust the news media? Now it is your turn to pass this email to all your friends and tell the truth.

Subject: AN EXPLANATION OF GOD.........
Time: 1:22:48 AM EST
Author: ccnccc
Subject: EXPLANATION OF GOD
This was written by an 8-year-old named Danny Dutton, who lives in Chula Vista, CA He wrote it for his third grade homework assignment, to "explain God". I wonder if any of us could have done as well? EXPLANATION OF GOD: "One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn't make grownups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way he doesn't have to take up his valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers." "God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times beside bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this. Because he hears everything, there must be a terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he has thought of a way to turn it off." "God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting his time by going over your mom and dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't have." "Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are any in Chula Vista . At least there aren't any who come to our church. Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work, like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of him preaching to them and they crucified him But he was good and kind, like his father, and he told his father that they didn't know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said O.K." "His dad (God) appreciated everything that he had done and all his hard work on earth so he told him he didn't have to go out on the road anymore. He could stay in heaven. So he did. And now he helps his dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones he can take care of himself without having to bother God. Like a secretary, only more important." "You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time." "You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God! Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong. And besides the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway. "If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can It is good to know He's around you when you're scared, in the dark or when you can't swim and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids." "But...you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases. And...that's why I believe in God."
